In this price range there are many good players from nearly every major manufacturer.
You don't say if you need a progressive player or not, although they can be had for less than $300.00 now.

Are you using a tube TV, rear projection TV, front projector system, or a plasma? What make and model?
Are you using an audio receiver or Home Theatre in a Box? Again, what make and model?

Actually I'm not really DVD Hardware litterate so I have 2 options.
1 - I can learn the lingo and become a knowledgeable DVD hardware person.
2 - I can be lazy and not care.
In this case, I've chosen not to care. I really just need a good, reliable player for a regular widescreen tv. TIA

If you want help most people here will try to be as helpful as possible and usually ask more questions or need to gather more information.
My adive would be to grab a Sunday paper and hit Best Buy or Circuit City and pickup the best advertised item.

Whadaya mean "regular widescreen tv".
There's regular, and there's widescreen.
Are you saying you have a 16:9 widescreen $3,500 tube TV?
Or a regular 27" tube TV?
I'm guessing that since you are buying your first DVD player and are an admitted newbie at HT (nothing wrong with that) you probably have a regular TV.
