Unfortunately the only DVD release of The Funeral is P&S full frame.
I have been waiting for a widescreen release for awhile now.
The film itself is incredible with terrific nuanced performances and a tightly scripted story.
The Funeral accomplishes what so many "mob" family movies fail at. It shows the fallout of a lives ruled by crime and murder, especially its effect on the wives of these men involved.
A wonderful ensemble cast (Benicio Del toro, Chris Penn, Chris Walken, Isabella Rossellin)under the masterful direction and cinematography of Abel Ferara, really manages to get under the skin of the material.
It is hard to watch be warned and it makes other Family movies look like Disney flicks. There are a couple of sex scenes and some non glamorized violence.
IMO this film puts the rest of the genre to bed.
We need a proper DVD release of this.

For what it's worth, this is the only Abel Ferrara film I've ever liked.

Abel Ferra has made 2 good films IMO
The Addiction
The Funeral
King of New York is decent but not on the same level as Funeral.

I like ALL of Abel Ferrara's films.
Martin Scorcese Loves Bad LT. He says it's the film he wishes Last Temptation of Christ would have been.
The funeral, Body Snatchers, Driller Killer, Ms. 45, King of New York, The Addiction are all excellent films. I even like Blackout, New Rose Hotel, & Dangerous Games, which some folks have probs with.
cheers, Tony Block
