Any sites that have info on the best color settings for TVs?
I just ordered my new TV. Decided on the Philips 27PS50B 27"

Anyhoo, I'll be picking it up later this week, and I was wondering: are there any sites that give information on proper color calibration for a new TV? I don't have any sort of audio setup, so I don't think I'm ready to spring for one of those video essentials DVDs. I'll be using this for TV, Xbox, and DVDs via Xbox.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the settings for that TV (actually, I thought what works for one person wouldn't necessarily be good for someone else) but you can rent either video essentials or avia from netflix. There's always codes to get the first month free so that way you could have it calibrated basically for free.

there are no universally correct picture settings for a certain TV. IT all depends on the model's default settings, # of hours used, how clean your power is, how much ambient light is in your room, etc. The only way to get correct picture settings is to use a calibration disc. The sound & vision one is $15 and has everything you should need.

The color settings of a TV will drift over time because the tube heats up and cools down. The only proper way to calibrate it is with test patterns every few months.
If you don't want to spring for Video Essentials or AVIA, I'll second the recommendation for the S&V disc. You could also use the THX Optimizer test patterns that are found on some THX-mastered DVDs. To use the THX patterns, you'll have to get a blue filter from THX (you can find a request form somewhere at www.thx.com).
