Besides the Panasonic. Are their any other companies coming out with stand alone dvd recorders that will be under a $1000??

I've posted this info in another thread. The Pioneer DVR-7000 IS THE ONLY stand-alone recorder to buy! I have it, love it, nothing else compares. It costs more than the Panasonic, $2,000 retail,
but you get what you pay for. Accept no substitute, the Pioneer recorder is the only way to go.

highdef,
Thanks for the response. But, to be honest. All I am going to use it for is to record tv shows that I like and possible some home movies. I know you use it for professional reasons. Would I need to spend almost double for a recorder? Or would the Panasonic be all I need for what I am doing? Thanks!

I am not thrilled with the artifacting (microblocking and video smearing) associated with the Panasonic unit. Yes I use DVD professionally with digital masters and I've found the Panasonic unit to be rather poor. I can only imagine that VHS material, being of inferior resolution to my DVCAM, would look even worse on the Panasonic unit. The decision is yours, but you know which one I recommend. Good luck.
