I haven't seen the current dvd, but it's reported to be scheduled for a re-release later this year.

The current DVD is supposedly the first time the film is in it's OAR. Nothing much on the DVD, so perhaps you might want to wait for the re-release. I'd of course kill for the Criterion version with Scorsese commentary.

There was a letterboxed laserdisc also.

On the chance that you weren't being facetious, this film was not ever released by Criterion. They put out LD editions of Raging Bull and Taxi Driver with audio commentary by Martin Scorsese, but not Mean Streets. Their edition of Last Temptation of Christ has been ported over to DVD pretty much intact.

A few weeks ago it was released on DVD in Germany. With the original english soundtrack, 40 min. Special about Scorsese's work ("Wonderful Visions on the way to hell"), Interviews, etc.
The german title is 'Hexenkessel' and you can find it @ amazon.de. The production company of the DVD is e-m-s.
