Region Free DVD Viewing for the XBOX?

I know there's a product coming soon for the UK xbox that will convert it for region free use:

http://www.play.com/Play247.asp?pag...OX&title=100483

Select "xbox" in the drop down search and type in "region x"

Any news for the U.S. xbox version of this or a similar product?

Does that mean that it is DVD "software" that controls what region a XBOX will play DVD's?

Absolutely. Same goes for all DVD players. Actually I believe it's in the firmware not software.

That's what I was thinking. The U.S. xbox already does pal and ntsc. I thought the hardware was the same and since it's a software product that makes the xbox region free, the software product for the U.K. should work on the U.S. xbox.

Maybe the laws in the states prohibit the distribution of such a product here but not in the UK or the rest of Europe.

As soon as I can get my hands on this disc, I'll try it and post the results here.

Has anyone tried playing an anamorphic R0 PAL DVDs on an X-Box? Does it look as good as it would on a European DVD player? Any framing problems or anything else?

Please if anyone knows the answer to my question, help me. I'm ready to buy Iron Monkey from HKL, but I first want to make sure that it's going to be displayed in its intented aspect ration on my X-Box.

I've heard it does a nice job converting from PAL to NTSC. Give it a shot.

I heard that there are a few HKL DVDs such as Police Story that really need the X Y scaling feature present in the Malata player in order for it to be framed properly. The X-Box doesn't have such a feature, so how will it look??

waitaminute... you've played Police Story on your X-Box? So I assume that you live in Europe and have a PAL system, correct?

I don't get it, why would you assume that? The Xbox converts a PAL signal to NTSC.

Are all Hong Kong Legends DVD's Region 0? I held off buying them as Pokerindustries.com lists them as Region 2.

Because no one has released a region-free disc like the one available in Europe now, and Police Story HKL is a region 2 disc.

What's up with the Tartan movies? I bought Ring 0 and it has the "0" region logo on the back, but under the special features section right above it it says "Region Code: 2". What's up with that?

Anyhow all was not lost as I also bought "All Night Long" and that plays fine.

Can anybody else here confirm that HKL's Police Story is a Region 0 DVD?

Yeah - and out of the 3 Ring DVDs - Ring 0 is actually Region 2 while Ring and Ring 2 are both Region 0... and I think they say Region 2 on the back. Ring 0 wasn't very good anyway IMHO.

Let's get back on topic here.

Anybody have any solutions for making the xbox a region free dvd player?
