Need recommendation for subwoofer to add to HT

I currently have the Bose Acoustimass 6 Series II and I would like to add a subwoofer to it. I have a rather large room, so I'm looking at 12 inch subwoofers. I just don't know which one would be best for the money and also would be compatible to my existing setup. My price range is $250 to $500 preferably. Also, would I leave the existing module in the setup? Thanks!

I don't know a thing about the way those Bose setups are connected, but here are a few good sub choices

Adire Rava

SVS

I don't know much about adding a sub to a Bose setup. But I'll recommend an excellent sub for under $500.

The PSB Image Subsonic 6 is a 12" sub with 440 peak watts. It is very musical and can easily power an excellent home theater setup.

Ever considered the Sony SA-WM40? Only $150, but great sound.

The SVS subs get alot of favorable reviews for people on other boards.

I am looking into one for myself.

The Adire Rava is $399.00 +shipping and a great sub especially for music. May not have the "slam" you would want for home theater though.

The Hsu VTF2 ($499.00+shipping) has gotten many good comments from reviewers. Good for both music and home theater.

This can be found for @$450 shipped if you look on www.audiogon.com

One you can find at traditional retail stores would be the Definitive Technology ProSub 200TL ($549 list)

You can search for reviews at www.ecoustics.com

Lots of options, good luck.

The recommendations below are considered the best for powered subwoofers (price/performance).

For HT "boom", the VFT2 is superior to the Rava, but the Rava is tops on the musical-side. Both are the darlings of many home theater net forums.

SV subs have the *best* HT "boom" for the price (& are quite musical too). They aren't the standard box format though, they're tall & cylindrical. Unfortunately, only the non-powered sub versions are in your price range--starting at roughly $400 shipped (you'll need extra components to run it---for the power & the crossover). Their powered version (comes w/ crossover) sound just as great but their cheapest runs about $600 shipped.

For home theater (not music), you can get a refurbished JBL PSW-D115 15" 350watt subwoofer for $177, and shipping is about $30 or so.
