Anyone going to see McCartney?
I picked up a couple of Chicago tickets for Paul McCartney's upcoming tour. It's his first tour in about 10 years and I'm thinking
it'll be a great one. Anybody else excited about this?

I got my ticket on Saturday for the Toronto show: 14th row, floor... not too bad. 
According to Sir Paul's official web site, he will be doing songs from "all stages of his career..." Sounds very promising indeed!

He also said that he'll be doing some songs taht he's never done live before.
Prices are steep....$250 $125-$85- $50 ($50 being on the roof blindfolded)
14th row floor.....very cool,Abstrakt ! I got three rows up on the side section closest to the stage in Chicago. That show sold out
almost immediately so I was lucky.

I'd love to go, but those prices are outlandish! I guess if you want to see the last living Beatle then you have to pay out the ass

No way - no how. Not at those prices. $50 would get you tier 3 at the United Center and that's simply not worth the price.
I paid $35 and got Siouxsie and the Banshees reunion tickets.

Unfortunately, $250 per ticket is practically a bargain these days for such high-profile events. When the tour was first announced, I was honestly expecting to pay over $1,000 for a pair of tickets.
In comparison, tickets to see Andrea Bocelli last year were going for $750 each (from Ticketmaster, not the scalpers.) And it wasn't even a charity event!
Ahem -- not that I actually like Bocelli... it was a gift for my parents.

This amazing rise in prices is basically due to the consolidation of the concert industry by Ticketmaster (ticketing), SFX (concert venues/promotions), and Clear Channel (radio). To top it off, SFX is now owned by Clear Channel, which is partially why small music venues can't land top talent and are going out of business, why ticket prices are so outlandish (need those margins), and why there's such a narrow focus of music on the radio in most American cities (mine included, and I live in Manhattan, for crying out loud! - WFUV excluded).
That said (rant over-sorry about that), I'll still shell out the cash when somebody like...erm, a Beatle shows up in town. Of late, the pricing has gotten bad everywhere - $100 for 'A Tribute To Brian Wilson', $135 for U2, and yesterday (ha) $125 for Macca. Eric Clapton was $85 as well, and even Radiohead was $50. Amazing how this contrasts with other big bands like Pearl Jam (who still charge like $30) or even an aging tourer like Jimmy Buffett (whose 2002 shows are $60 reserved, $30 lawn - which seems fair considering his huge audience.)
The acts know that they have plenty of rich fans who are happy to dole out the big bucks, so they just go along with the gravy train. I do wonder how high it's gonna have to go before people stop filling the arenas - at the $250 mark (for Macca, Madonna, and even CSNY) it hasn't abated yet. That's not good.
