The Camera Eye --- Rush
No, no
The Grudge -- Tool

Hell I don't know!

"Take Me To The River"
Not my absolute favorite, but I think it deserves to at least be in the running - simply because I've heard so many different versions from so many different people & I've never heard a bad one.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star --- by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
We all do our best work before we are five.
(Yeah, yeah, I know he was 17 when he did an arrangement for this song, and that Jane Taylor actually wrote the lyrics much later... and that Mozart made a variation of the song Ah! Vous Dirai-Je Maman? ---- but it's still a GREAT tune.... maybe the best ever.)

My votes go to:
Depeche Mode - "Enjoy The Silence"
NewOrder - "Bizarre Love Triangle"
Front 242 - "Headhunter"
But could this debate be any more subjective?

I've never heard that one -
I like Bob Dylan the best, also Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, B.B. King - I'll try to find that one and give it a listen though.

Its on his first album, "Bob Dylan" '61, I think. THough I'm sure you can get it on any of the napsterlike sites.
and palebluedot: that is terrific, thanks.

My two favorites...
"A Day in the Life" by the Beatles...manages to pack everything that makes a song great in under 5 minutes and not sound cluttered in any way...sheer brilliance.
"California Stars" by Wilco and Billy Bragg...excellent Woody Guthrie lyrics re-interpreted and a result that damn near approaches trancendence.
Just thinking about these songs is enough to give me goosebumps.

I don't think this question can actually be answered. "White Christmas" is amazingly popular, and is well loved, but best ever? I doubt it.
"Happy Birthday"? At least everyone knows it.

This is a very cliche choice, but Stairway to Heaven could very well be the perfect song - it pretty much has everything.
Another good choice would be Radiohead's Paranoid Android - that song is also a masterpiece that throws in everything and acheives something much greater than the sum of it's parts.
