NOTLD - ME is a transfer from Elites previous SE, which is said to b the only respectible transfer there is, the sound is THX certified so DVD quality-wise, it is great!!

Ok, -but I have the previous Elite Special Edition DVD, though, to be honest, I haven't gotten around to opening it. What are the differences between this version and the new one?

First off the specs are listed here in an earlier thread.
Secondly, the transfer will not be anamorphic; as the film was shot in Academy ratio (1.33:1). Elite claims that the DVD is recorded at a better bit-rate than the earlier SE and that the video and audio is tweaked accordingly. This should be the definitive edition for NOTLD.

I am still hoping that someone will post an actual review of this new disc. Has anyone seen it yet?

It will be "full frame," 1.33:1.

This is the proper aspect ratio for this film.

Don't you people that buy dvds get mad that the studio keeps bringing out a better print of a dvd you bought a year ago?
Why can't they just get it right the 1st time?

The first DVD came out in 1997 and was one of the first DVDs released. Obviously, the DVD market has changed in the past 4-5 years... authoring techniques have improved, people want more and more extras etc.

I don't have much issue with studios revisiting titles in general, and I certainly don't in this case. A re-release every 5 years or so isn't too much in my opinion.

(By the way, this isn't a "better print". It is taken from the exact same source material as before... just presumably authored with a higher bitrate.)

Yeah, I hate it.

But on the bright side, I was never actually able to find the previous Elite versions of NOTLD and Re-Animator.

I just got the disc today and have only had a chance to watch it on my portable player, but the new transfer looks stunning. Still, even with some new extras (although most of the major ones are carried over--the commentaries, the parody), the previous Elite edition still is an incredible DVD for $10 less.

i thought it was anamorphic or maybe widescreen too

i never had the original version of NOTLD (black & white), so i never knew their picture quality or what not...
but i've seen the remake version (hunt down every Best Buy & Circuit City in my area for the DVD disc) & i love the movie very much... that's why i decided to get the original version

too bad it ain't anamorphic... but who knows i might get it anyway (since Elite is only one who released NOTLD the right way)

You're not going to see NOTLD in anamorphic so grab this new disc. George Romero did't shoot the film in a widescreen aspect ratio. He shot it in Academy ratio - 1.33:1.

For the fourth time... This film was shot at 1.33:1. It will NEVER be anamorphic widescreen.

I'd like a review of this myself as I have the older Elite disc and wonder if it's worth dumping and upgrading for...

Now is this print just like the Elite laserdisc which was stunning?
That had no grain,specs. It was amazing what they did to that 1960'smovie for that laserdisc.

The both the new DVD and the old DVD are taken from the same transfer used for the laserdisc.
