Vanessa Carlton
There was a thread started last month asking to identify Vanessa Carlton from a music video, and with her album Be Not Nobody coming out soon, I thought I'd start a thread.
Does anybody even know who this 21-year-old is? Her video for "A Thousand Miles" has been on TRL for a while, and the song has been featured on several television shows (WB) and in the movie Legally Blonde.
Comparisons to Michelle Branch are already starting ("..if Michelle Branch can do it with a guitar, why not Vanessa Carlton with a piano..?"), but I think Vanessa's first single is less pop teeny bopper than Michelle's. Whether or not the rest of the album is comparable will have to wait until it is released. I've seen interviews with Vanessa and she seems very genuine and seems to really love the music.
Any opinions?
(My friends still think it's strange I like singers like Michelle & Vanessa, along with other acts such as Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, Phillip Glass, and others. I chalk it up to having very wide musical tastes.

BTW: If anybody on the West Coast catches this thread early enough, Vanessa will be on Conan tonight, the 5th.

I am glad I read this post. I have been trying to figure out the name of this singer for weeks. I always seem to turn into her video after the name has falshed on the screen. I knew her first name was Vanessa, I just couldn't remember her last name. Also I can now catch her on Conan.
