Vertical DVD Players? (and VHS players?)
My mother lives in a tiny apartment and can probably only accommodate a vertical player. The only DVD player I know of that is designed to be vertical is the Sony DVP-F21.
Does anyone know of other vertical players? She would be just as happy with a vertical VCR. No, she has never had even a VCR. All answers will be appreciated.
Thanks
Artie

Playstation2 Sony is the only company I have heard of so far which has put out vertical DVD Players. I don't know why you wouldn't have space for a normal one, but there you go.

It does all the basic DVD things. It has an optical out. If you want a remote, which you would for DVD watching, it is an extra $20. The price is rumored to go down. It isn't the best DVD player in its price range, but it is only one I know which will play DVDs vertical (besides the other Sony).

If this is for your mother, the PS2 would be the last player I would consider. It is not very user friendly, plus the DVD playback is only average.
The Sony F-21 would be much better as far as ergonomics go and playback, plus cost less then a PS2.

You may also want to consider getting a portable DVD player which you could pretty much align anyway you want to. Just hook it up to the TV just like you would any normal DVD player and you'll be all set. A portable player would also be much smaller than any other standalone player.

Can't a normal player be placed on a shelf below the TV? One of my friend lives in a ~100 sq. ft. (Think about the side of full bathroom) apartment on the Upper West Side (no bathroom, no kitchen, just one TINY room). He has no problem with the size of his DVD player. Of course he has to sit 3 feet from his TV.

If you are still looking for a vertical player, circuit city has the F21 on clearance sale this week for $199.99. That is a very nice price for this unit.
