DVD player won't play VCD

Hi,

I have an apex 500-a that says it will play vcd's. I bought a set of Buffy the Vampire vcd's and the player acts like no disc is in at all (I tried these on another dvd player that was supposed to play vcd's too, and it didn't recognize them either.) The discs do play in my computer.

Does anyone know what's wrong or how I can fix this? I'm planning on upgrading the firmware in my dvd player soon (just ordered some Australian DVD's), but I thought it would work without that. Is it macrovision doing this since these probably aren't legal vcd's?

Thanks for any advice,

tasha

I'm shocked that bootleg VCDs would have quality control issues.
