It was over a year ago that Geoff said that padding was finished. I think it's high time that this becomes a reality, and I think that a stricter enforcement (instead of the constant locking of these threads) will get the message across a little more clearly.

I think it's important to remember that we want people to be able to have fun on the board. It seems like suspension would be a little much for someone who's just excited about having reached a certain posting landmark.
But these types of threads are discouraged (it's been moved, but it was someone announcing they hit the 1,000 post mark) and that's why we close them (and sometimes delete them).
We may start deducting posts from people who do this when they should know better, however.

I think that by a thousand posts (which is a number most members of this forum never will reach), one should know a little better, especially when they title it "ConPADulations."
I think that the deducting posts from people would be a good policy. I was just using this thead as an example, but I watch it all the time. People who post IBTL or just the myriad of things which do nothing but increase their count are doing nothing but leeching off an otherwise good community.

Suspended; also need updated email
cmon guys, it's hardly a problem now
i've seen hardly any posts relating to post counts or milestones or padding
if anyone posts such a post, first a warning, then a suspension, then a banning, simple as that

I say make the punishment a little harder and people will think twice about it. Right now, I could do any number of things and only get a closed thread. I would know what I'm doing when I do it, but if it's just a thread being locked what the heck do I care?

Well, I doubt you care too much (or so it seems by the sentiment there) but it seems that people who do this crap over and over (which is quite a few of the "otters") just give more work to the mods.

but also the reason why we shouldnt worry so much about it
it is still a rarity in there.. and most regulars know better..
not to mention, Im sure the mods are smart enough to know when some people do it more often, and might warrant harsher actions..
but suspension seems kindof silly.. considering it really isnt hurting anyone.. I think the mods have done a really good job in handling this so far..
if your looking for something harsher.. maybe petition the mods to just delete the threads when this comes up.. but a lock can be more effective in many cases, because it gives the mods a chance to leave a message to the original poster..
as far as that goes.. pretty much every thread that gets locked, is done for a reason.. maybe they should make an example out of all of those people.. and instead of ever locking a thread, they should just suspend everyone that does anything wrong.

I think it's one thing to get a thread locked because you're a new member. You could be testing the waters. It might have slipped your mind. It could just have been a mistake. It's another when you have a thousand posts and you want to praise yourself on that. It's also quite different when a thread is locked because it has run it's course, or an argument gets particularly heated.
I liked Blade's idea of just deducting posts from the people who praise their padding. Take away something that means something to them. Half to zero is a good rule.

blade is an excellent mod.. and I generally agree with most of his thoughts.. but I definitly think this one is flawed and would most definitly be against it
