When there are two online stores selling the same DVD at different prices, why would you bother to price match? Why bother to email a different retailer and get them to send the disk at a new price? Why not just use the cheaper retailer?

Coupons and Shipping prices (and sometimes taxes) play into the final price too...
(also throw in some shops have better service than others, and gift certificates can come in to play...)

A lot of people like to stick with stores they've had good experiences with and stay away from the bad ones. A lot of etailers can put up cheap prices and then not deliver the goods for weeks. Buy.com has prices cheaper for me than DDD; partly because DDD charges me 8.75% tax. Regardless, I've had better experience with DDD than I have had with buy.com. Getting the better price to go with the better service is the best of both worlds.

It costs me a few seconds to email DDD with the link to a cheaper retailer. That's not what I would call bother.
And if I get the same cheaper price (and free shipping) at DDD just by sending a short note, why should I pay more?

But Mike, when you tell DDD that X retailer is charging 15.00 for a disk and 3 dollars for s&H, they keep the total cost in mind when they price match!

I price matched something with DDD and they lowered their price to $2 less than what the other retailer had listed on site (not including shipping)

don't forget some stores, like Best Buy will give you 10% of the difference. not much, but it'll add up. I got a couple of Die Hard and Rocky sets PMed to Frys at $40. They had it at $70, so i got $3 back on each one (well, a little more, because one employee couldn't do math)

It seems to depend on the CSR who gets your email. Some send back a standard reply saying that s&h is not included in the other etailer's lower price and that DDD are still the cheapest if you keep this in mind. Some match the price regardless of the other store's s&h charges.

Did you get the extra 10% back when you first purchased or did you have to come back later? When I did a price match at the register a couple times, they just did an even match. But I know their low price guarantee says you can get a price match w/in 30 days and then you get an extra 10%.

you have to buy the item first, and then go to their CS desk (the place for returns) line to get the 10%. Of course, you could just go to the CS to start with, and ask for the PM. If they don't agree to give you 10%, then just buy it right there, and then show them the ad again. they'll usually agree though. Don't try to ask the sales rep to PM, as he won't give you 10% of the difference.

If I'm price matching a B&M, I usually do it at the local Navy Exchange. They'll give the price match, and I don't pay tax on the purchase.
