To HD or not to HD...questions I have
I'm looking at getting a new TV within a month or so, and I have a few choices
to make. HD or not HD. The TV's I am looking at are the 27" Samsung TXL2791 and
the Samsung TXL2793. The differences are the 91 is a standard flat screen TV,
likened to the Wega, but has (from things I have read) better geometry and
less problems, as well it has the enhanced mode on the remote for ease of
switching into enhanced mode. But this isn't about Samsung vs Sony...
The 93 is the HDTV equivilent of the 91. And it's about $400 more expensive.
It has Progressive scan capability's and looks darn purty. BUT, I don;t see
myself spending the extra 400 for a set-top box for the HD signals... I'll be
waiting until things have settled down, so in about 4 years, I'll be picking
up a much larger HDTV...
So my question is. DO I spend the extra cash on the higher resolution just
for my Gamecube and DVD's?
What are your pro's and cons of one type over the other (HD vs non-HD) in this
situation.
Thanks

I think it would be hard to justify getting an HD 27 inch. Especially since as you stated the receiver costs more than the set.
There is quite a bit of programming starting to come out but I wouldnt think a set that size is really going to do it justice. I would just get a cheap set now for the games and save up for one that you will be really happy with in the future. 40+ inch with a 16x9 ratio would be ideal.
There is no use getting HD for your gamecube and DVD as they do not approach the resolution of the HD set. It would be a waste.
I did see a 27in samsung with stereo and picture in picture at the local wal mart for 99 dollars. Quite a bargain if you ask me.

Well the cube does have some games that output a progrssive signal.
Thanks for the reply, I am starting to agree, buy the non_HD tv, and then upgrade when the standards are set (a few years).
The set I'm looking at is a nice TV and a great price... 469 right now, and I am sure I can talk him down so I can get a service plan for little to no money.

It's worth jumping in now, if you have the money to spend. I wouldn't worry too much about changing standards.
The Prima direct view sets look really great. If you're going to spring for the 27" Samsung, you might as well take a look at the 30" 16:9 Prima which is a true 720p HDTV that costs $1400. Not a bad deal.

Don't bother with 27" HD. From what I've seen it's too small to make an appreciable difference. Even *gasp* VHS, holds up OK. Obviously there are differences but the smaller the screen, the smaller the difference. Save the bucks for DVDs
