Unfortunately, some independents think that violating street date is their only weapon against Bloodsucker's copy depth. I have never and will never condone this rationale. I hate to see an independent get socked, but this may have just cost them a pretty penny.

I work at HW Video. Last week, our local wal-mart broke the street date for "O". We kept getting irate customers yelling at us asking why we refused to rent "O" when wal mart was selling them. So, I went and bought a copy, and we called corporate. They were pissed, but basically were told when they inquired about it that since Wal-Mart did it so much, there was nothing they could do, and they would not get fined.
That leads me to think it's just an empty threat, and that no one really cares about breaking street date. Granted, we don't, but we get yelled at every week because someone else does.
