When is the next price break on a PS2 coming?

So I'm a little behind the times with my PS1 and Dreamcast but I've been planning on buying a PS2 all along, just not at the current price. Anyone have a reasonable estimate on when we'll see the PS2 in the 150-200 range?

Its still selling pretty well. I doubt it will drop anytime soon. Maybe we will here something by the summer. If it does drop don't expect it to be more than a $50 drop. I would bet you won't see a $199.99 PS2 until 2003.

Maybe they'll drop the price when they release the harddrive.

Just speculation here, as I've heard nothing, but I would expect if there's going to be any kind of drop, it will be announced in May at or right before E3. That and the holiday season are traditionally the most popular times to make such announcements and generate the most hype. My guess is it will probably go to $249 and stay there for about a year or so, so if $199 is your cap, you may still have a long wait. Again, I don't know for sure, but that's what I'm thinking will happen.

I've even seen rumours of the "price drop" just being where they bundle the modem or harddrive with the system when they are released and keep the bundle priced at 299....

With XBox also at $299 I believe there is now no incentive for them to drop their price. They have a larger library to support their system.

I guess you really missed the 30% off deal in Virgin Mega Store last Dec.

Here's a question for you...forget about the "next" price drop, where/when was the first price drop?

Haven't you heard? It's "next month." So, currently, the price drop will be in March. When there is no price drop in March, come back and ask again...you'll discover that the price drop is now in "April."
