To any musicians or music lovers out there...

Maybe it's me, but an aweful lot of songs today sound like songs from the past. I'm not talking about sampling, cause at least there the original artist is recognized. I'm talking outright stealing of a rift or melody. I can't count the number of times a song will begin and I start singing lyrics to a different song, which is somewhat identical to what was currently playing.

Have we reached the point where compositions are exhausted? How many ways can a guitar be played? How many variations of cords or beats can there be? Is the fact that so many bands sound like other bands a sign that the age of music is crashing to a halt?

The music industry is going to use what works. The will continue to rehash music for people who didn't here the original stuff as long as it sells records.

Sad but true.

You can always come up with different stuff to play on guitar. I can see the drum beats sounding similar because there are only so many drum beats you can play, so eventually they are going to start sounding similar. And you have to play the beat that works with the song, so if the guitar of a song follows the same basic patter of an older song the drums will probably sound similar as well.

All I have to say is TOOL. They don't sound like anything else and are continually changing into strange new music. But as far as what is on the radio - at least the radio around here - is a rip off of the same old crap that wasn't very good the first time. THough sometimes they rip off really good songs. I'll be sitting there and thing damn this is a good old song, I haven't heard this in a while - then some dance beat comes on over it and a teeniebopper starts singing. There is essentially no end to the music that can be made - but what will be made is another story altogether.

True that! Tool was the first band I thought of, too.

There are others out there, though. You just have to find them.
