I have a Philips HDR212, and I just bought the 80gb at compusa and want to put it into my tivo, now I looked at the whole list on what to do over at the tivo community, and it is super long with a lot of info I don't need so I was wondering if anyone here has done it, and have a more condensed instructions for me before I try it with the long list. Also looking for your experiences on how easy it is.

I've haven't upgraded my TiVo yet either, but I've been looking into it since 2000. How do you plan on doing your backup?

I have read that, it is too long I wish there were seperate ones instead of one big one because it gives me a headache reading that thing to many things that don't pertain to me.

I did it, but I bought a tivo upgrade kit off ebay. So most of the work was already done for me. Just installed the drive.

I just finished putting a new 60Gb B drive in my HDR112 this past weekend. Of course, Compusa ran their 80Gb special after I had already ordered my 60Gb from Newegg. C'est la vie.

Anyway, if you are not going to read the whole Hinsdale how-to I would say don't do it. I would suggest that you go through and just use a highlighter on a printed copy to mark the things that are relevant to you. If not, and you just try to wing it, you might have nothing go wrong. Or you might cause your Tivo to become a doorstop. Or you might erase your computer's HD. So on and so forth. If you can't dedicate the 20 minutes or so it takes to thoroughly prepare to upgrade, then you probably shouldn't.

I've got a Replay unit and upgraded mine with an 80gb drive. Really easy!

I upgraded my TiVo last night with the 80GB CompUSA drive. I used Hinsdale's awesome guide and it was a snap. I can't believe I waited this long to do it. At least I got a great price on the drive and can't believe how cheap and easy it was to quadruple the recording capacity of my TiVo. It's also cool that I now have a backup of my A drive in case a drive problem occurs I can always replace and restore and I'm up and running.

Read Hinsdale's document if you're going to do it. It covers everything you need to know. It's the easiest, most straight foward document you'll find IMO. If you're ever had to open your PC to add a drive to it, it'll be a snap for you.

I added a 60gig HD to my DirecTivo about a month ago. It was easy as hell. Took me about an hour and I went from 35 hours to 88 hours.

I *really* need to do this. I have a 14 hour Tivo. That is 14 hour on unwatchable mode.

Anyone have recommendations for a harddisc to use? I am thinking about 80-120gig. I don't want to wish I had gotten a bigger disc later.

Oh, too bad! Those $99 5400RPM 80GB Maxtors they had on sale at CompUSA a couple of weeks ago were just what you needed.

I don't have a Tivo, but from what I understand you want the slower RPM drives to keep down heat. You should be able to find a deal if you keep your eyes open, drives keep going down in price and the 5400RPM ones are really dropping because people prefer the faster ones (which the Tivo doesn't need).
