You should read this thread: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=182287

It tells you how to easily mod a $80 apex to be region free and macrovision free.
I bought the 3 year warranty to aliveate any issues with it breaking. (extra $29)
You do have to modify the player to make it work, but it is realitively easy, takes about 2 minutes of cd-r burning and 2 minutes to put the disc in the player.

Malata DVD N900R $250

Malata DVD-N996 $290 or
VGA Output Model $389.99

Could you elaborate on the differences between these choices they have? How do these players compare to the sonys and other brand name models in the same price range? I've heard that you have to do work on these machines to upgrade them or something, is that true? Or is it simply opening up the box, setting it up, and playing other region discs just as if it were on any standard machine bought at Circuit City? How does Malata get away with making these players when obviously the studios wouldn't be happy about it?

Thanks!

PS- What do you think, silver or black?

If you get the ones made in Nov with the Nov firmware, no mods are necessary. Its a fantastic machine!!! I have a black one and love it.
