is there somthing wrong with my sub or is it my settings. i hear alot of extra sounds. it's coming from the movies i watch so i don't know if it's picking up every sound or is it a wire cross up. i have my subwoofer next to a dresser. does it need to be placed in an open area? the sounds are annoying when people are speaking and you hear this thumping sounds from the sub. i tried messing with the sub volume, but i like alot of bass and i don't want to take it down too much. if you know anything of whati'm going through, please help me out. i have a pioneer D509s receiver and two sony speakers. thanks, john

set your crossover setting to a lower frequency.
That should help filter out some of the unwanted frequencies.

No.

But it does affect the amount of bass produced.

Open = Normal Bass
Wall = More Bass
Corner = Most Bass

As for your problem I agree with ed. Try to adjust your cutoff frequency.

*Nod* What's your crossover setting currently set at?

I have the crossover on my Sony set all the way up, and let the receiver do the work. My receiver crossover is set at 80.

If your receiver has sub frequency adjustments, give this a try.

I have mine in a corner of a very big vaulted ceiling room (see pix on my website), and get tons of bass....pictures rattle throughout the house on some DVD's. :)
