Any programs that are "MUST DOWNLOADS" to help with the connection?
Is there anyway I can set up my DSL like I had my Dialup set up, so I dont' have to use the Earthlink software?
Thanks!

Make sure you go to DSL reports (http://www.dslreports.com) and run the speed tests. They will tell you if you're getting close to "advertised" speeds out of your DSL connection. They also have a section dedicated to tweaking settings if your connection isn't up to speed. You should be able to set your DSL connection in your browser just like you did a dial-up account and bypass the software your provider would like you to use.
Edited to add:
Don't forget to get yourself a firewall!! For a decent free one, I'd recommend Zone Alarm.

if you have more then one computer at that house..
or ever bring a laptop home
a cable/dsl router is a great investment for connection sharing as well as setting up a home network

I'll second the use of Zone Alarm firewall software!!! I've been using the free version for about a year and it's GREAT!!!
Get it here: Zone Labs (http://www.zonelabs.com/)

zone alarm is better
(although still not foolproof.. we went through a whole long thread a couple days ago, explaining why its still easy enough to exploit)
