DVDTalk Headlines = YUCK!

Sorry. It just seems unnecessary.

We pay so much attention to smaller resolution's people may be running at, with the signatures and such, but then the headlines show up and kind of defeat the purpose of space conservation. With the larger ad's (understandable) and the pricesearch (understandable) and the Logo (understandable) all at the top ... Maybe the headlines would be better off at the bottom??

I know, I know... And its not a HUGE deal... But first it was the bigger ads, which is completely justified... Then we started to show concern about screen rez's and slow dial up speeds for some users... So it seemed like space conservation was the way to go ... Thus the sig length rule... which i also thought was a good idea... but now we're dedicating 5 lines to such important topics as:

Here's the thinking behind it.

Many people have the forum bookmarked and may not see some of the top stories on the front of the page when they visit the forum. It's info that's relevant and it does take up less bandwith/resource than the 2nd big ads in the other forum.

I for one am happy to trade in the big ads that sometimes cause pages not to display in Other for some headlines. Since I conserve bandwidth/time by going straight to the forum main page(skipping the front page), I think displaying the headlines I would otherwise miss is a great idea.

Ill be one of the first to admit.. I rarely hit the frontpage of dvdtalk.. and basically spend all my time in the forum..

but I think having the headlines here helps make up for that.. because alot of times, it is stuff that interests me.. I just never think to check..

Im glad to see them up there

Agreed. I like the forum but I could care less what's on the homepage. Sorry.

I like them. I'm one of those Geoff mentioned that have the forum main page bookmarked and rarely ever check the main page. This way I can see the big headlines.

I was about to start a feedback thread about how much I enjoyed the Headlines. I go straight to the forums normally, but am very glad to see the headlines. And...they have made you money from me clicking through and running around some. They work, and I like them.

just to toss this out there...

how many people would prefer that when you click one of the headlines.. that it launches in another window? or is it just me?

of course I come straight to the forum.. and like that I can now see the headlines.. but dont really want to click them and be taken away from the forum.. personally.. I would prefer it to open in another window

of course I can shift click, if other people disagree and like it the way it is.

I'd rather be able to decide whether or not I want to spawn a new window. My vote is to leave it.

twikoff, you can right click and choose "open in a new window". I use it all the time.

yea.. i prefer to shift click though

if you hold down the shift button when you click it.. it will open in a new window.. and this is what Ill do, if the consensus is to leave it how it is

I like the headlines and much more so than having a big ad there. I usually open links in new windows, but if it's not too difficult, maybe it would be better to have them open in a new window.

When I click them I usually would right-click and open in a new window but maybe make them do that by default? I don't even know if it could be done?

I do like the general look though and it's cool how they are updated automatically to reflect the new news.

Hate the headlines. Just more text to avoid everytime I want to read another post.

Please remove them.
