Half-Life issues with WinXP?

Since I'll have DSL within a few days, and the new Day of Defeat mod for HL coming out, I thought I'd reinstall HL. I've heard it has issues under XP. I read it locks up on exit? Is there a fix or workaround for this, or will I have to live with it?

I just bought Half Life today for the DoD mod later tonight.

It plays just fine when I start a game. But if I leave to the menu for anything, it boots me out to windows, yet the sound keeps going.

When I tried to Alt-tab out to windows then return, the game has video but no sound.

The trick is to start the game once and use the quicksave/quickload feature. I will test out the new DoD when it gets released today.

Well, I was just informed that DSL would be installed tomorrow at 9:30, so I'll download DoD and the latest HL patch after.

138 megs for DoD!!!
