V/A - A Tribute to Tool (2/26)

Should be interesting for Tool and/or goth and industrial fans...

Tool Tribute

I'll definitely be picking this one up.

they picked some good songs, but I've never heard of most of those bands - notably missing is "Hooker with a Penis" that is one of the best - and is there anything off Lateralus on there?

TOOL fans unite!

On a side note, I still have heard Third Eye Open, that string quartet tribute. How is it?

I like it a lot. Although it's all strings, they manage to produce the same feelings evoked by the Tool versions for the most part.

Most likely the participating bands chose which song they would cover for their own reasons (i.e. meshes well with their own sound).

So has any one heard the album yet? I'm curious to know what it is like considering I don't know any of the bands on it, plus I can't hear it for myself since my local Tower Records doesn't have it.

Not yet. Should be picking it up very soon, though. Can anyone lend me about 15 bucks?

I just checked this song out on WINMX, and this is DEFINETLY not Tool or Maynard. In fact the same file was labeled Marilyn Manson & some were labeled Tool. It sounds more like Billy Corgan singing the song actually, but Im not sure on that, but its not Maynard or Tool.

I finally got the album, and it's really...ummmm...interesting.

It's growing on me more and more, but it will take some getting used to because it's one of those tribute albums where the artists definitely make the songs their own. Other than certain chords or beats, most of the songs don't sound very Tool-ish at all.

Haujobb's cover of Die Eier Von Satan would have to be my favorite so far. I'm digging on the musical aspects of most all the songs, but I'm just having a hard time with industrial/gothic vocals in place of Maynard.

Bottom line -
  • Diehard Tool fans: You gotta pick this up.
  • Diehard industrial/goth fans: You gotta pick this up.
  • Everyone else: Run...Run away as fast as you can.
