Luc Besson' SUBWAY on R1 DVD (Christophe Lambert)

This is an off, sort of entertaining film on an immature level. It was Besson's second film and had ten times the budget as his first. Lambert won the French Ceaser for best actor (I think that's the name of the award). His hair is bleached white. It's fun to see a younger Jean Reno, who was balding even back then.

The film's Panavision framing was used to the hilt and pan-scan versions have been a travesty, so it's nice to see this film presented in anamorphic 2.35:1 from a surprisingly clean print and a good enough bit rate to ensure minimal artifacting (it hovered around 6mb ps during the 10 minutes I viewed it).

The DVD has the original French surround track with subtitles (not dub-titles), plus a dubbed version, with Lambert doing his own dubbing.

Cost me $19.99 at Best Buy. Worth a look for Lambert/Besson fans. (The beautiful Isabella Adjani is also in it and get's top billing, despite her limited screen time).

The Columbia/Tri-Star version. It's anamorphic widescreen. The other version is sh*t cropped from an old 80's analog master.
