Here's the deal:
I recently purchased a BIC DV62CLR center channel speaker from uBid...while I am more than happy with the sound quality, the video shielding is not good enough for me to place the speaker directly on top of my TV. When I asked my local home theater store if there was anything I could do to rectify the situation, I was told that I needed to place a sheet of lead between the speaker and the TV.
I remember reading in one of my Mustang magazines a couple of years ago that Boeing operates a salvage yard that is open to the public. According to the article, one could purchase a sound-deadening material there (used in commercial airliners) which consists of a layer of lead foil sandwiched between thin layers of foam rubber. It's supposed to be really great stuff. Therefore...
1. Is anyone familiar with this material? What does it cost?
2. Is anyone familiar with the salvage yard? What are the hours
of operation? How do I get there from I-5 northbound?
3. Can anyone suggest a better/easier/cheaper alternative?
Please don't tell me to move the speaker farther away from the
TV as this is not a viable option. While I would hate to drive all
the way to Seattle to purchase this stuff, if it is inexpensive I
could also purchase enough of it to use as sound deadener in
my Mustang...and if I delay for a few months I could also take
in a Mariners game while I'm there... ;)
