PS2 price drop in Feb??

I read in another post

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=170550

that there is going to be a price reduction on the PS2 in February.

Anyone heard anything else about this?

The rumor that "the PS2 will drop in price next month" has existed since the system was launched. Right now, it's easily outselling the competition, so price drop is highly unlikely.

And next month we'll have one that says, "PS2 to drop price in March!" .

Well, I think this "rumor" has more body to it now that Sony has dropped the price of PS2s in Japan would you think? (Article)

The company said the reduced price of PlayStation 2 to 29,800 yen ($224.3) from 35,000 yen in November helped boost sales in Japan.
Naturally I'm hoping that they do drop the price soon so I can afford to jump on the juggernaut (or is that bandwagon?) that is PS2. Then again, they may keep the price that way for some time to keep from losing too much money on every console sale.

yes, there will be a price drop next month. It will coincide with the release of the Playstation 3.

I wouldn't expect to see a price drop until around E3 in late May at the earliest. Even then, I don't believe it'll be very much. Maybe $249? Or Sony may hold off on a price drop, wait until their online service rolls out and start bundling an ethernet adapter with the systems.

That's all wild ass speculation, of course, but I would think that's the type of stuff that's realistic. Anyone saying $199 by next month or whatever is dreaming.

[eh... my grammar suxors]
