early to mid 90's alternative rock one hit wonders

list some of the one hit wonders from the 90's that weren't too huge (like "impression that I get" or "sex and candy" huge). I am looking for songs like Rusted Root's "Send me on my way", Reef's "Place your hands", Loud Lucy's "Ticking", and songs like that. Here in a few weeks I am going to have a radio show dedicated to classic alternative and modern indie rock so I need as much small time radio songs as possible. Thank you.

Thanks for the replies but Candlebox also had some other radio songs and so did the Refreshments. Still, I am looking for more low-key mini-hits like Green Apple Quick Step's "Dizzy" and Patti Rothburg's "Inside."

EMF had two big hits here, Unbelieveable & Lies so I don't know why they've been listed by a couple of people. As did Jesus Jones with Right Here Right Now and Real Real Real. These bands are more like two-hit wonders.

Arificial Joy Club - Sick And Beautiful
New Radicals - You Get What You Give
Stir - New Beginning
Joan Osborne - One Of Us
Days Of The New - Touch, Peel & Stand (I think they had another hit though)
Monster Magnet - Spacelord
Kenny Wayne Sheppard - Blue On Black
Eels - Novocaine
Todd Snyder - Alright Guy
Ugly Kid Joe - I Hate Everything About You

did the 'Spin Doctors' have another hit besides "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong"?

also Green Jello has that "Chewbacca" song (not really a hit though)
and Seven Mary Three also has "Lucky"
Local H also had "Eddie Vedder" and "All The Kids Are Right"

Supernova did "Chewbacca," not Green Jello.

Tom Cochrane is not modern rock...at all.

Some of these bands are really quite good, but they just aren't radio hitmakers, I guess (Superdrag, Hum, etc.).

I really liked The Ocean Blue's first album. The songs Between Something and Nothing, Drifting Falling, and Just Let Me Know. I can't recall if they were ever on the radio.

Excellent. This is turning out well. I saw about 13 songs I can't remember so this is turning out well. Rev. Horton Heat's big song here in Kansas was "Martini Time." 7 Mary 3 had a few radio hits too with "River's Edge", "My my", "Cumbersome", "Luck", "Over your Shoulder", "Make up your mind", and the newest single "Wait." Kula Shaker also did "Hey Dude" and their cover of "Hush." I can't recall Buffalo Tom's "Sodajerk" but I remember "Butterscotch" being played on rotations. Monster Magnet had a earlier hit before "Spacelord" called "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" which will forever be their best song. I remember Harvey Danger had a 2nd single following "Flagpole Sitta" but I can't remember what it is called. The Toadies also had a few other songs too but I also can't remember what they are called. Another single from "Beatiful Freak" by the Eels was "Rags to Rags." Here in Kansas that got more radio airplay than "Novacaine for the Soul." The Eels also had a modest hit with "Last Stop this Town", my personal favorite. Don't forget that Local H also did have "Fritiz's corner." Spacehog also had a followup to "In the Meantime" called "Cruel to be kind" off of "Resident Alien" and a followup to "Mungo City" on the Chinese Album but I can't remember what it was. I also remember some airplay for few other Screaming Trees songs but at this time I can not remember. The Breeders' 2nd single "Divine Hammer" didn't catch on fire but at least radio play for a month and those are the songs I am looking for.

Keep on posting though, this is excellent!! My radio show is going to rock.

God Lives Underwater also had a hit with "No More Love"

Here's some more that I don't think were said yet.
Stereo MC's - Connected (I know they had another single but it didn't really get that big and they also have a second album that has bombed.)
Mono - Life in Mono
Hooverphonic - 2wicky
The Seahorses - Love is the Law
Screaming Trees - Nearly Lost You (I don't know why these guys never hit it big)
Lush - Ladykillers (These guys had ~4 albums but only their last album really had a hit that got major airplay)
Zebrahead - Playmate of the Year
Monaco - What do you want from me?

Oops, I forgot about those other 2 Kula Shaker songs.

-Buffalo Tom's "Sodajerk" was played on pretty much every episode of 120 Minutes and was later used in some prominent commercial.

-Sure, Harvey Danger had a 2nd single...but it went nowhere...FAST!!

-No other Toadies songs came close to getting the attention that "Possum Kingdom" got (and is still getting!!). I'm a HUGE Toadies fan, but alas, they are a one hit wonder.
(Hell Below/Stars Above was the best album of 2001!!!)

One of my favorite bands, Fountains of Wayne, has had only one real hit-"Radiation Vibe," although they did have videos for "Sink to the Bottom" and "Denise" so I don't know if they would count.

ChrisKnudsen, is there any chance your radio show will be broadcast over the Internet?

I was talking about having a special edition of every show to be broadcasted over the internet with one of my programming directors and researcher because I am only allowed to have a two hour set over the air unless I double up with someone. If I doubled up with someone else, then I would have four hours. The problem with that is I will be the only one with a pure alternative rock show. The set will probably consist of an hour and 15 minutes of classic alternative and about 45 minutes of current indie rock. The special edition set that I was thinking about could run for about 3 hours.

For Squirrels also had some radio play for "Orange Worker" but not as high as "Mighty K.C." That album "Example" is in my personal top 5 of all time. The Rentals also tried to have "Waiting" as a hit with multpy video versions, selling to many soundtracks, but never really caught on. "The Return of the Rentals" is in my personal top 20 and the Rental's follow-up is more on the island of "Pinkerton" than on the first album of brite pop sounds.

There is a total of 26 songs to check out and I am going to add some more to the list:

The Why Store "Lack of Water" (had a minor hit with "father")
Jennifer Trynin "Better than Nothing"
Rust "Not Today"
Ruby "Tiny Meat"
Tripping Daisy "I got a girl" (minor hit with "Sigmund the Seamonster" and "Piranhas")
Mansun "Wide Open Spaces"
Wild Colonials "Charm"
Reacharound "Big Chair"
Huffamoose "Wait"
Magnapop "Open the Door"
Chalk Farm "Lie on Lie"
Possum Dixon "Emergency is about to end" (w/ some minor play on "Crashing your Planet)
The Odds "Someone who is Cool"
Nixons "Sister" (had some others, can't remember)
Honeyrods "Love Bee"
L7 "Pretend We're Dead" (biggest hit, can't remember others)
Failure "Stuck on you"
Self "Low" and "Cannon" (before being indie icons)
Black Lab "Wash it Away" and "Time Ago" (another two, I know)
Ruth Ruth "Uninvited"
The Murmurs "You Suck"
Muffs "Sad Tommorrow"
Primitives "Crash"
Drugstore "Solitary Party Groover"
Howlin' Maggie "I'm a Slut"
Placebo "Pure Morning"
Orbit "Medicine"
Salt "Bluster"
Abra Moore "4 Leaf Clover"
Bare Jr. "You Blew Me Off"
Dead Eye Dick "New Age Girl"
Jim Carroll Band "People who died"
Imperial Teen "You're One" and "Yoo Hoo"
Freddy Johnston "Bad Reputation"
Moxy Fruvous "Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors" (only radio song I remember by them)

If these bands had other hits, please post. Thank you, this is turning out very well.
