Reviews Wanted: The Last Detail

I'd like to get this one on disc, but I've heard the sound is muddy and the transfer is disappointing. Say it ain't so, dvd buddies.

Makes you wonder whether the film was simply a low-budget production to begin with. Maybe the film stock and sound equipment was lo-fi.

...suggestion: do give this movie a chance - it really is pretty damn good!...

Jack Nicholson was at the top of his form during this time period from Easy Rider up until One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, and may have been the best actor in the world from 1970 to 75 when he made Five Easy Pieces, The King of Marvin Gardens, The Last Detail, Chinatown, and The Passenger between the aforementioned ER and OFOTCN.

The Last Detail is a great film. Besides a great Nicholson performance, the cast is great, with outstanding performances by Otis Young, Randy Quaid, Clifton James, Carol Kane, Michael Moriarty, and Luana Anders.

cheers,
MCB

Otis Young just passed away last month. His obit claimed he was the first balck actor to star in his own western. Obviously, it didn't last long.

I haven't picked up the DVD yet, but I saw it in a theater a couple years ago and I think the sound just isn't very good. There's numerous films from the 70's that experimented with various verite sound approaches, with middling-to-worse results.

As the Dude used to say, "F**k it". I'll just get the disc. My VHS tape blows, anyway.
