DirectTV question (RCA vs Hughes receiver), also remote transmitters
I want to go with DirectTV after 4.5 years with Dish Network (new equipment, plus I like the mixed language package a little better (mix of Spanish and English language shows).
Blockbuster seems to have the best deal now, they have the Hughes system. For $25 and a 1 year committment, I would get the receiver, twin LNB (two LNBs), "professional" installation (though I don't need or want it), and a "free" rental per week for a year from Blockbuster (DVD, tape, or game).
Or I could go to Radio Shack which has the same deal (though without the free weekly rental for a year), except that they use an RCA receiver.
Does anybody have any thoughts on RCA receivers vs Hughes receivers?
Also, I would be putting the receiver in one room and hooking it up to a TV in that room, plus a TV in the living room, plus a TV in the basement (all the same signal, just one receiver). I currently have a radio frequency remote, I know that Hughes and RCA use infrared remotes. There are devices called (I think) remote transmitters, which has been described to me as a small (4" high) pyramid. I could put one on the receiver, and one each on my other two TVs. Does anybody have a link to one of these things (and what is the proper name)? At radio shack, it would cost $100 for a pair, then an extra $50 for the second transmitter. This would be for an RCA transmitter. Are there any competing brands? Prices?
Thanks!

Re: remote transmitters
Actually, my Hughes Platinum DirecTV receiver remotes came with two add-on items that attach to the top of the remote controlls to be able to control the receiver from other rooms. These convert the infrared transmissions to radio and back to infrared when the receiver picks them up.
If I remember correctly, the SONY DirecTV system also had a similar feature and the integration of the remote transmitter was even better....it didn't require any attachments.
This feature may only be available on the higher models but check it out first before buying any additional things.
