Introduction/ Favorite Concert DVD's

Hello, I'm new to the board. I hung around Home Theatre Forum for a while, but this place seems to have more activity. So here I am.

Now for my first official question: (very intersted in your picks) What are your favorite "In Concert" DVD's? Are there any thatyou were disappointed in (sound quality-wise)?

I own:

Metallica: Cunning Stunts (Incredible blasts at the beginning of "ONE")
DRI: Live at the Ritz (ok for an "old school" punk show)

Welcome!

If ya can handle an old 70's rocker doing his classic tunes, Peter Frampton Live in Detroit has a great DTS mix. Time has taken his looks and a bit of the high notes, but it hasn't effected his brilliant guitar work.

David Gray, Live At The Point really captures how fun his concerts are. I got to see David Gray back in May, as close to the stage as you can get (my arms were resting on the stage), and the this DVD experience is pretty close to live.

It was filmed in Dublin, where David Gray is far more famous than in the US, and it's incredible to see him play in a huge arena.

Dave Matthews Band, Listener Supported is also very good, if you like them. Seeing them on DVD is nothing like seeing them live, but it's not bad.

My favorites:

Message to Love- Live at the Isle of Wight (It's a mix of all the bands that played there.)
The Moody Blues- Live at Red Rock( Not sure if it's on DVD yet. It's on LD though.)

Agree with:
- Springsteen - Live in NYC
- Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense

I agree that Eagles - Hell Freezes Over has great video & sound, but I find the performance uninspiring (contrast with Springsteen NYC, which has phenomenal energy from start to finish).

A few that haven't been mentioned:

Roy Orbison - Black & White Night
Features Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, etc., etc.
Awesome performance & DTS sound

John Fogerty - Premonition

Bee Gees - One Night Only

Go Go's - Live in Central Park

2 that I love:

James Taylor: Live at the Beacon Theatre

Keb Mo: Sessions at West 5th

I tend to go for more intimate concerts that offer exceptional sound.

Favorite: Madonna - Drowned World Tour

I also have Madonna's Girlie Show, Tina Turner's One Last Time, Tina Turner's Celebrate, Pet Shop Boys' Montage, and Cher's Live in Concert.

Madonna's Drowned World Tour is my favorite, however. Although light on the extras (there's only a photo gallery), this has amazing sound and is my personal favorite regarding stage production. Highly worth it if you are a fan.

I have to second that Rammstein nomination. Turn down the lights, turn up the volume, and you're in for one hell of a ride.

I fully expect my favorite to be Dead Can Dance - Toward the Within whenever I get around to buying their 1981-1998 boxed set. It includes 3 audio CDs and the one DVD.
