How to get TV audio through 5 speakers?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I was wondering if it's possible to have the audio output from my TV come out of my 5 speakers (fronts, rears, center). Since I have an older TV with only composite connections for audio, can I just run the red/white RCA cable from the TV to the receiver?

If your TV does have stereo audio outputs (make sure they aren't input jacks), then yes, you can run them to an input on your receiver. Many networks broadcast in Dolby Pro-Logic, it's just a question of whether or not your local affiliates do, or whether your cable provider passes the stereo signal.

Also, if you have a "matrix surround" type setting on your reciever, that should kick things into the 5 channels for things that aren't broadcast in at least Pro-Logic.

Thanks, I figured it out...connected an RCA cable from my TV's a/v output to my receiver's a/v input. Pretty nice...I use the "All Channel" setting on my receiver, and TV and VCR sound comes out pretty equally. GREAT for sports games.
