How Good Is Pikmin?

Honestly I have only played a little bit of it. My wife is enamored with the game and this leads me to believe she got me a GameCube for Christmas.
It is very hard to describe. Miyamoto-san dreamt up the game while he was working on his garden. From the little I played of it, you could akin it to Lemmings, except you have control of up to 100 Pikmins. They do whatever you ask them and different colored ones have different abilities (red ones are the attacking ones and are impervious to fire, blue ones can go across water, etc.). The goal of the game is to get 30 parts for your downed ship within 30 game days.
It is very original and was really a blast to play and I look forward to playing it fully. It is not for everyone though I would gander, you may want to rent first (and you can probably beat it in a 5 day rent). Much like Super Monkey Ball, Pikmin has it's own niche where it will thrive.

I loved it. I beat it a week ago today and I'm probably going to be starting up a new game this week. I actually can't wait to start up a new game because the beginning of the game is blissful. Plus there's lots of stuff to see and do that I didn't get around to on my first time through the game.
Some people say that this isn't a game worth owning because it's too short. I say this a game worth owning because it's something new and fresh and deserving of your time. But, if you never play through games more than once and think 12-15 hours is too short for a game then you should just rent it.

I played it briefly at a friends and my early impression was very good, but I only played around on Day one. My friend has played it though about four times and thinks its one of the best games he has every played. After the first time through it changes a little bit with a challenge mode. I'm going to borrow it from him and play it through whenever he gets tired of it.

I played it at the store for a bit to see what it was like and it was pretty cool, very original. It didn't take me as long as I thought it would to get used to the controls and it plays awesome once you have it down. Its probably one of the most unique and intuitive titles hitting the consoles this christmas and is also pretty polished too. To answer your question: It's good!
