Anybody read IGN review on TV Adaptor for Game Boy Advance?

I've got my unit on pre-order at gamegizmo.com, but I'd love to read Craig's review at pocket.ign.com

Any insiders here willing to share Craig's thoughts on the device? Anybody else gonna get one?

Thanks!

It came down to this:
Quality with composite sucks, but it does support SVideo, and the image quality with that is close to the official capture device that companies use for press. 75+ bucks is a lot though; won't be getting it for myself. Around 30-40 shipped, I'd do. You will have to open up the GBA and void the warranty for the install.

Thanks RudeBoie. Yeah I don't mind voiding the warranty if I can play on a big screen... that's not good that composite hookup sucks since I have no svideo capabilities... the thing is rather expensive but the thought of finishing Castlevania on a lit screen is so nice! Looks like the only work you have to do inside the GBA is patch into the line that feeds into the GBA screen which appears to be similar in design to an IDE cable.

simpsonsfan04, you can't link to the article, you gotta be a subscriber... but hopefully IGN will open it up for the rest of us in a couple of days... probably tomorrow I would think. It's on the front page of the pocket IGN site so keep an eye out. Also GameGizmo has a lot of pics... that's where I ordered mine so I hope it's a good shop... never used 'em.

Whoa! Those screenshots look pretty good, the S-Video definitely looks clearly better than regular.

I want to play Castlevania on this thing, and golden sun of course Actually now that i think about it the GBA has a lot of kick butt titles, something like this adapter might be worth investing for me, because I usually only play my GBA on plane and car trips (except when I get a game I really want like golden sun and CV). Thanks for the links

Thanks for the info, I think I'll have to pick one up! Even on composite it still looked good.

That's just the problem-you can't make a device like this that doesn't require you to open up the unit because there is no way to connect to the video on the outside. Opening the unit voids the warranty, so there is no way Nintendo could make one unless they have you send them the unit so they can open it.

If I get one of these (which I doubt), I'll wait for the portablemonopoly frontlight to come out so I'll only have to open it once.

Yes but how long is the Nintendo warranty anyway? I heard 90 days...

...the thought of playing Mario Kart battle mode and having my OWN full size TV screen is nice too! Can't even do that with MKart64... If only my friends were into GBA.

This looked interesting until I saw the pictures, which weren't especially impressive. I'll hold out for the PortableMonopoly frontlight mod.

Who cares about voiding the warranty?

Some people might be cautious about it the way they are with using third-party peripherals. In any case, that has to be pointed out so that if after performing the modification, the system doesn't work, you can't go crying to Nintendo about it and expect them to replace it. It's simply a warning-do it at your own risk.
