Dts Vs Dd With Harman Kardon Avr310?
I have noticed in the last 3 dts movies (pearl harbor, planet of the apes and j.p. 3) that the dd track has better overall bass response. I checked the setting for the dd in the receiver and matched them equally for the dts in the receiver's set-up screen. I play a scene with both tracks and still can not get the deep bass out of the dts track but, it is excellent with the dd track. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else to check in my settings? The sub is set at +3 for dd and dts. I just spent about an hour going over the manual but, could not get the bass on the dts track to play equally to the dd at the same volume level.
Thanks,
Ian b.

Hey!
AVR110 owner here...
I love DTS soundtracks, but I had the same problem... it just took some tweaking. What I did was basically put in a DTS disk that also had a DD track. Played the DTS first, made sure it all sounded good (bass especially, made sure it was balanced with other freq ranges). By 'made sure it all sounded good' I mean adjusting the LFE levels in the recevier (hit CH then down to S-W level, then up up up!) as well as in the SW unit itself. Then I switched to DD. Leave the hardware settings the same. The receiver will remember level settings, your subwoofer won't In DD adjust the S-W level down down down and anything else that needs to be adjusted.
Either way, my S-W level in DTS is like +5 and my DD is like -5... pretty f'ing weird, eh? But once you get it set up, you're in for a treat!
Then again I thought the 310 had the thing where it sets itself via the remote's builtin SPL meter??? That should help for everything 'cept the SW!

Einsatz is right. I have the 210 and when I set it up using a test disk the sub level was -10 for the dd and +1 for the dts. Some other receivers are like this also I believe some of the yamahas.
