It's tough really to pick my favorite so basically I'll just list my keepers.
Favorite Shooter:
Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies- I was going to say Rogue Leader, but AC4 is a so much better and deeper experience. The story is also very involving without taking away from the game.
Favorite FPS:
Halo- Amazing. It's great to play a FPS that's not entirely confined to claustrophobic corridors(they always made me nauseous after awhile). It also has great A.I. that even your fellow marines also are effective at what they do.
Favorite Adventure:
MGS2: Sons of Liberty- A great natural followup. Sure there are a few nitpicks, but in the end nothing could hurt the experience.
Favorite Survival Horror:
Silent Hill 2- Again a flawed masterpiece. However, the game screwed with my mind so much that I actually pondered the story long after I was done. No other game had done that. It was like a well written novel.
Favorite Sports:
Tennis 2K2- 4 people + 4 controllers= Hours of goodness
Favorite RPG:
Phantasy Star Online- For a guy that doesn't play many RPG's I couldn't bear to even look at any other games while playing PSO.
Favorite Fighter:
Super Smash Bros. Melee- A tough call for me since I'm such a 2-D lover. But with all the options, unlockable stuff, and multiplayer possiblities it's incredible.
Honorable Mentions:
-Amped
-Devil May Cry
-Gran Turismo 3
-Gran Theft Auto 3
-Spyhunter
-Dragon Warrior 3(GBA)
-Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
-Last Blade
-Capcom VS. SNK 2
-Star Wars: Rogue Leader

I am limited to the PC and PS2 platforms... sorry.
Best Game Overall: Grand Theft Auto 3, PS2. There is just so much freedom in this game. Be a bad guy, then hop in an ambulance and go save lives, or pick up fares in a taxi. There is a storyline, and it's good, but unobtrusive... you can play along with it as close as you want, or you can let it fade into the background and have a little extracurricular fun.
Best Action Game: Devil May Cry, PS2. It's gorgeous, and the gameplay is spot on. Also: Max Payne, PC. Dang. How fun is this game? Yeah, it's short, but it's a good distraction, and the bullet-time feature is just so well integrated.
Best Sports Game: NCAA Football 2002, PS2. This is why I bought my PS2 in the first place, and it hasn't disappointed. It's also the only way I'll probably see my Texas Aggies in the #1 spot in my lifetime. ;)
Lived Up To The Hype Award: GTA3. All that I expected and more.
Biggest Disappointment: Metal Gear Solid 2, PS2. Seriously. Yes, the gameplay was totally on. But in my opinion, the story blew. Incoherent, and too many cinematics. Yeah, I know... "But that's why you PLAY MGS!" But there needs to be a balance, and they have yet to find it. Near the end of MGS2 (just like MGS1)... twenty minutes of cinematics, five minutes of gameplay, twenty minutes of cinematics, five minutes of gameplay, twenty minutes of cinematics. Yuck. If I wanted to watch a movie, I would have popped in a DVD. Let me get back to kicking butt. They tried too hard.
Games I Haven't Played, But I'm Pretty Sure Kick Butt: Rogue Leader (GC), Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC), Halo (XBox), Ace Combat 4 (PS2), Silent Hill 2 (PS2), Tennis 2K2 (Dreamcast)

So far I'm blown away by my XBOX games (the few that are out). Halo has to be my favorite so far. Fuzion Frenzy is a great party game but sucks alone. Also really like DOA3.
Of course I can't leave out my PS2 favorites which right now is Grand Theft Auto 3 followed by Jak and Daxter.
Can't say much about gamecube yet since I won't receive that until next week.

Star Wars: Rogue Leader (GameCube)
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA)
Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA)
Wave Race: Blue Storm (GC)
Madden 2002 (multisystem)
Tony Hawk 3 (multisystem)
Super Mario Advance (GBA)
That's pretty much all I can think of. I didn't really buy many games until recently because nothing came out on Dreamcast that really interested me, and the N64 and PSX were pretty much dead.

You're absolutely right. I forgot about Conker's BFD. For some reason I thought it came out last year. Seemed like ages ago.

GTA 3 is the greatest game ever made. Surprised it hasn't been banned yet. The game is really violent and disturbing but damn....its soooo much fun being a criminal!! The game is the most interactive i've ever played. you can do what you want, when you want, go wherevers, its so awesome you can get totally immersed in the game. Big thumbs up and don't be surprised if they take it off the shelves anytime soon.

Hmm.. I will do this way:
GBA:
Best - Advance Wars
Runner-up - Golden Sun
PS2:
Best - MGS2
Runner-up - SSX Tricky
XBOX:
Best - Halo
Runner-up - None yet.
GameCube:
Best - Rogue Leader
Runner-up - Super Smash Bros. Melee
PC:
Best - BG2: Throne of Bhaal
Runner-up - IWD: Heart of Winter
Personally, I lost almost ALL interest in the PC this year, when I used to be a devotee. However, those 2 expansion provided HOURS of enjoyment.
As for system of the year, GBA easily. Since June, I have not put it down.

Early-in-the-year releases get no respect...
How can PSO not at least be included in every potential Game of the Year list? I know most have moved on months ago now, but when it was new, it addicted thousands upon thousands of gamers worldwide.

What about MOST GROUNDBREAKING GAME of the year? I would definitely hand that over to PSO. Multiplayer-online RPG with build in translation. Sweet.
Oh wait, but then SEAMAN was also one of a kind.
