Do you really think people under 10 have the cash to purchase a Gamecube?

So far I'm the only one in the 36 to 50 category. I hope it doesn't stay that way.

29 and still hooked to Nintendo. My son is seven and he also plays Tony Hawk, so it is a family system.

I think joshhinkle did something like this awhile back, it was quite possibly the most successful console comparison thread in this forum in that no bashing occured hardly. We all had to state our age, anyone know what happened to that thread? Some people were averaging up the results (lots of people responded) and the average age was around 25 for people who were buying the GC and roughly the same for the X-Box.

23 here and love my Gamecube.

Outlaw, that thread is The One and Only Why You Chose (blank) Console thread. It's still around, it just hasn't been on the front page for a week or so.

I think this poll is a bit skewed.... I bet the highest percentage of people on this forum are 21-25, thus the reason why it's in the lead.

That was the point.....21 - 25 are for the most part... first generation Nintendo babies haha

Glad you noticed.

No one is admitting to it. I can't understand for the life of me why people over fifty don't play that many video games. Why do they think these things are just for kids? Didn't they play board games in the past? No one thinks twice if they see someone older playing monopoly. Everytime I talk about new games out I get some serious eye rolling from my coworkers and relatives. It could mean that they think I need to get a life. I'd like to see a gender poll also. I think men far outnumber women in playing video games as well.

lol, yeah I remember seeing a commercial on TV where these really old guys are playing video games (I think it was an N64) and it looked kind of funny. But another reason is that video games also raise your blood pressure. Actually its not just video games its the TV. When you get involved in the show or movie your watching, or if your playing a game your just about always involved in it it raises your blood pressure and thats not good for the elderly. I remember being at a school science fair and someone did this as a project and posted their results (actually I think they really wanted to bring their PSX to school hehe).

I think men do outnumber women but I think the gap is getting smaller. For example last weekend we had a late night super smash bros melee tourny and a lot of my friends who played with us were female. I'd say it was split about 50/50 that time. I think most of the people who visit this forum are primarily males but there are a number of girls as well, and they rock! Anyway i'll let the poll do the counting....

I think it's a generational thing. If they had grown up with video games, I'm sure we'd see more older gamers. I'm sure this will change in the future as more people who enjoyed Atari or Nintendo as kids enter middle age and beyond.

I can't wait until the first videogame generation gets old and they start marketing games to geezers:
  • Drive to the Store: take a leisurely drive to the grocery store in your oversized sedan. The difference between this and most car games is that the objective is to take as long as possible. The more cars back behind you honking...the better. This game has a special "challenge mode" where you can't quite see over the dash. Special points for "tricks" like pulling out into traffic as quickly as possible and then poking along at 15mph.
  • Spoil the Grandkids: The idea is to slip as many sweets and toys to your grandchildren without their parents noticing. At the same time you must dispense "expert" advice to the parents on how to raise their kids.
  • Complaint Department: Finally...a "fighting" game for seniors. Work your way up the corporate ladder complaining that the grocery store charged you $0.10 too much for a can of beans. Start by hurling complaints at the cashier, then work your way up through the customer service desk, the assistant manager, and so on.
  • Matlock: The RPG: nuff said
  • Mall Walk: walk around the mall in this slow-paced platform game. Can YOU avoid the rowdy teens on your morning stroll? Can YOU make your way up the dangerous escalator without mangling your walker?

I just purchased my GameCube last night. Haven't had a chance to play as of yet do to law school finals, but as soon as I return home, that will be the first thing I do. Also, I picked up some games for the PS2.

Happy Holidays!!!
