I miss the old systems because...
You know, back in the day, I'd buy a system, I'd get the whole deal inside the box. THe system, all available hookups, an extra controller so my buddy can play, and a game.
Nowadays, you get the system, some hookups and a controller.
You'd think the least they could do is throw in a demo disc or some *****.

yeah, a demo disc should be a must. It's not like it takes away all the profits, and for that matter it could sell or increase the hype for a few more games.
I think that an extra controller is a little too much. Let that be optional, but when it comes to a Optical disc based system, at least include a memory card.

That would be nice, but we are talking about companies that take a loss on every single piece of hardware they sell, so I'm okay giving them $200 more than I did 10 years ago, you know?
Considering the Gamecube costs $200 for a system, $50 or so for another controller and a memory card and $50 for a game, that's only $300. We paid $100 for the original Nintendo set, right?
I mean, c'mon...stuff goes up in price...

I blame Sega for all of this! When the SNES came out, Sega wanted to release a "more affordable" Genesis, so they let out the "Core System" which included the system and one controller. Now that's all they do .

lol, yeah a memory card would be nice but it was only $15 for the PS1 and GC so I can't complain too much. But I think they're trying to cut the costs as much as possible. I believe gaming consoles in Japan have never been released with pack-in games and controllers(I could be wrong but I'm pretty positive its the case). Once the competition heated up in the US they needed to cut the costs wherever possible.
The only systems I bought with extra's were the NES(with the grey zapper, SMB and Duck Hunt) and the SNES (with extra controller and SMW). That was the end of that time period. I agree about demo discs they should at least put that in, when I got my PS2 last year I was checking everywhere inside the box for a demo disc and then finally figured out..........." 'the hell? There's no demo disc!??!" Right now the GT3 and PS2 system is probably the best bet in the spirit of the "whole deal in the box" although you still need an extra controller and memory card.

I agree a memory card would be nice, but include too much and people start complaining, because it costs more & then you are moving toward a bundle. Cartman's right, I remember the core system pricing strategy... wouldn't be so bad, though if you actually saved something by buying it together as a bundle, but that never seems to happen.
