reconsider

Actually I think you'd be better off with just a nice dvd player and a vcr. If one breaks you are gonna have to replace both in a dual dvd/vcr. Plus I like to display my DVD player and tuck away my vcr for family videos and recording Cops for after work. For the high price these dual machines cost i would instead just go big on the dvd player, and pick up a vcr for $60 at kmart, besides...a vcr is a vcr but it really matters what kind of dvd player you get!

Sony

Well, I have been happy with my 5 disc sony dvd player. I know there are tons of opinions on this subject. But the 5 disc has been very reliable to me and since I have bought it it has dropped in price.

Pioneer

I would purchase separate components. You will get better quality for the same money.

Pioneer makes great DVD players at a very good price.

The only two dvd/vcr combos I've seen are made by Samsung and Go Video and both retail for about $300. I would also stick with seperates, especially with the way prices have dropped on vcr's. For a dvd player, I would recommend Sony, Pioneer, or Toshiba, if your budget fits it I would also consider Yamaha and Onkyo. I would just make sure it has a full selection of both audio( optical and coaxial) and video (s-video and componet) , that way if you upgrade any part of your system in the future you will get the full benefits from your system.
