Buying first DVD player and have a few ?'s

I've been searching the archives here for info on what features are good/bad, what to avoid, etc. but I wanted to see if anyone could answer a few main questions.

If I don't have an HD tv, will I see any difference at all in prog.scan versus non prog. scan?

Does it matter that my tv's only input for DVD is the S input?

What brands should I stay away from?

What's a good player with the following requirements:
Progressive scan
5 disc changer
MP3 playback
Zoom
Camera angle select

Thanks in advance.

You need a TV that accepts a progressive signal to get any benefit from a progressive player. 99.5% of these are are HDTVs,

No. S-Video will work fine. Keep in mind that progressive signals can only go through the compenent outputs of a dvd player, but in your case this is a non-issue.

All players will have camera angle select, so you can take that one off your list. I know that JVC, Marantz, Philips, Toshiba, and Harmon Kardon make players that will do all of the things on your list. There are probably several other brands as well. I don't have any experience with any of them, so can't make a direct recommendation.
