Do you mean, Sony vs. Phillips? Or 20 hr vs. 30 hr? I have the 30 hr Sony, and I like it a lot. I went away for a week, and it had plenty of space to tape my shows on high (not best) quality.

Thanks Sominex, that link should answer a lot of my questions.
Static Cling, yeah I guess both, I don't know anything about Tivo and just wanted to do it right the first time around. I already DirecPC (Duel) and I'm even thinking about getting HD DirecTV, but I'll need to do my homework on that one. But for now I just need the Tivo, not sure if I should get a stand alone or a combo?
So if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it! Thanks.
Kathy

If you want to record cable and/or over-the-air programming, get the standalone. The DirecTV TiVo only records programming on DirecTV. Local ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, and FOX are available through DirecTV, with WB and UPN due in 2002. Check to see if they are available for your area or if you are eligible for distant networks.
I have two D-TiVos and I love them. Don't know how I ever got along with them. I get up to 35 hours of high quality recordings on each unit. The D-TiVo can be upgraded to a larger hard drive and has dual tuners. With a lifetime subscription, you can have multiple D-TiVos on the same subscription and pay only $4.99 mirroring for each unit.

Thanks dvdanon, yes I have DirecPC/DirecTV, so does that mean I need a stand alone Tivo for DirecTV? Or will I have to by another DirecTV receiver with Tivo (combo)? Also, will any Tivo receiver work with DirecTV? Thanks for you help!

Kathy Jo,
You're welcome.
Personally, I would go with the DirecTV TiVo if you do not want to record over-the-air (antenna) programming. The D-TiVo does not have a mpeg II encoder because it is recording directly from DirecTV's signal. Record time is up to 35 hours best quality. There are three D-TiVo models available: Phillips DSR6000, Sony SAT-T60, and the Hughes GXCEBOT.
The standalone TiVo does includes an mpeg II encoder and has four recording qualities (Best, High, Medium, Basic). The amount of recording time varies depending on what quality recording you choose. Phillips has 20, 30, and 60 hour units and Sony has a 30 hour unit.
I have included a link to the Special Offers currently available:

It's a great time to take the TiVo plunge.

I recommend the Philips TiVo because the remote (the peanut) is the most comfortable remote I've ever used. I will watch 3-4 hours of TiVo without setting the remote down. All other remotes go right back on the coffee table.

I'll second that. The Peanut is just simply comfortable and intuitive. Even though the Peanut only controls TiVo watching, and I have another remote for EVERYTHING ELSE, I prefer the Peanut. Of course, TiVo watching almost requires that you pick up the remote at least once every 15 minutes (that is, at every commercial).
