36" WEGA or RPTV?
It is time to upgrade from my Panasonic 32". Should I invest in a Wega or buy a RPTV? I have a 27" WEGA in the den and it is outstanding.

At the time I made this decision I went with the 36XBR. I compared it to the Mits 45 and I thought the Sony was cleaner and clearer on side by side DVD comparisons.

Brian, before you make a decision, factor in this beauty, the Sony KV-40XBR700. Here's a link to the product info from Crutchfield:

Is there a High Def TV that looks good using a directv svideo connection? I bought a Toshiba 16:9 43" tube and the picture looks great with progressive scan DVD's but looks like crap with directv. I am taking it back and getting a different tv. The problem is I don't think it is the fault of Toshiba. Like I said the DVD picture is amazing. I am starting to think it is the fault of the whole HDTV industry. I went into Soundtrack today and had the sales person turn on SAT picture on a few of the HDTV ready sets and they all look like crap. They are pixeled and show a lot of artifacts. Does anyone know of a great tv that will not give me this problem? I am desperate for an awesome looking TV. Thanks

I own the Toshiba 40H80 and absolutely love it. Im not an expert in video, but I think the picture has looked great since the moment I plugged it in. I havent done one tweak. I got it for about $1500 at Onecall.com. It is last years model so it may not be easily available

I have both experience with the Sony wega (36") and all of the mits series.
Just remember this, If you watch alot of DVD, definitely go with the mits or a widescreen TV. Progressive dvd playback coupled with proper tuning is definitely hard to beat.
Also FYI, the mits 46" has the same size guns of last year's Top of the line 65 "
I own a wega now and wish i would've bought an 16:9 tv.
just my $0.02

Depending what your budget range is and the deal you can swing.. you might want to consider a 34" widescreen direct view set... they are coming down in price a lot...
