"Next Generation" magazine done
According to gamespot.com, Imagine Media pulled the plug on yet another decent magazine, "Next Generation."

I should've known this was coming; I just got a letter in the mail from them trying to get me to subscribe for 2 years for $24. I probably would've done it if they hadn't folded.
So what does that leave left for cross-platform gaming mags? EGM, Game Informer (my personal fave), and GamePro?
Pretty sad state of affairs.

I never cared for that magazine anyway. It was just a little to technical for my tastes and I refuse to buy magazines that cover PC games as I'm paying for pages of reviews/news/info, that I don't give a crap about as I hate PC gaming.

Yes, I remember that issue where they burned the effigy of Mario on the cover.
Always thought NextGen was the most mature of the commercially available gaming magazines. They always stayed away from the, for lack of a less ironic term, fanboy attitude that the other magazines seemed to engender in their readers.
No cartoons, no loud graphics; just news, views and reviews on games and the gaming industry.
They will be missed.

I never read the magazine, but I liked the idea of it. A mature, well-laid out magazine with interviews with people that really mattered. I can't believe that in this period of console explosion that it couldn't be supported any longer.

this is bad news. I remember I used to frequent next-generations's site every day for my gaming news, it was the best a few years ago with tons of news, pics, and movies. (until they changed it to the evil dailyradar!). Then I moved over to IGN.
I did buy the magazine once to get the demo CD that came with it.....can't remember what game I wanted to play that was on it though. Seemed like a fairly decent magazine but it sucks that a lot of magazine and gaming sites are closing up shop recently.

Didn't this used to be like biggest gaming mag around? 200,000 readership or something like that. While EGM & Game Informer were going through major changes and/or problems. Now Next Gen is gone. I liked the old format of the magazine better though (with heavy paper).

I have all the issues from #1, I wonder if the set will be worth anything?
I also wonder what I will get in place of Next Generation, as I still had issues left in my subscription!! When Dreamcast magazine when belly up, my sub was moved to PSE or PSX magazine (playstation only mag)
I remember when Next Generation used to be the large format. Was easier to read and nice to hold. Similar to many of the Euro gaming mags.

I used to think it was a great mag, even had a subscription. But, after the format change, when they started having 'babes' on every cover, the editorial quality went way downhill and I dropped it. All hype no substance, like most of the industry...

well it's now official. just got an issue of PSM in the mail w/ a letter stating Next Gen is done. Apparently they are converting all remaining issues of your subscription to PSM. Next Generation Magazine, you will be missed.
