I just played Halo...ONLINE!

Yes it's true. You can know play Halo online with a little computer knowledge and other people to connect to.

Go Here to get it to work and to find someone to play against.

www.xboxgw.com

You can play up to 4 XBoxes with 4 on each box. The program uses Linux to connect each XBox over the net. I was averaging a little less than 90 in my ping. I played someone in Seattle and I am in South Carolina.

Enjoy.

From what I read, I'm outta luck since I don't use Linux. Hopefully that'll change soon.

Yeah there is supposed to be a Win32 port along the way. But why not just install Linux? Throw Redhat on there and you should be fine.

I don't use Linux either. It boots by itself without the help of Windows.

I repeat, YOU DON'T NEED LINUX TO USE IT.

Just download the boot programs, boot up the computer, and type in stuff like your IP address. It took me about 20 minutes to get it going.

I have a cable modem but, I need to get a router.

[thinking] I must have Halo Online. I will have Halo Online... [/thinking]

You can have 3 Client XBoxes link to the Server XBox for a total of 16 players.

You dont need to install Linux to run this. Just make the boot disk, pop it into your PC and it'll boot into Linux and run the app. When you're done, remove the disk, reboot and you're back to Windows.

Does anyone else think it's ironic that Microsoft's console needs Linux to play online? It's been out for 2 weeks and already MS is lagging behind Linux developers.

Go check out www.gamespy.com, they just released an arcade/tunnel client for use with the Xbox, so you can now find other players, join/host games, etc. Currently works with Halo, Tony Hawk, and Nascar Heat. Unfortunately I'm at work so can't try it until tonight.

It wasn't my fault! I was just typing a sentence which it converted to HTML! Blame the board!

Do you have to register Gamespy to play?

Yes you have to register since you have to log into the system in order to play. You do not have to pay the $20 though. When you go to download, there's a link to the demo version. I think the only difference is that you don't get support from gamespy if you download the demo.

I have to agree with you. Can't wait until we can play one of the football games online.

By the way, anyone who needs the direct link to the XBOX guide on gamespy...

Actually, related to this...

I have a wireless router... I wonder if it would be possible to hook up a wireless accessory to the X-Box somehow...

Avaya makes wireless Ethernet Converters. You need to buy the EC and the Wireless PC Card to put in it. And then configure the EC on your PC. But after that, you should just be able to plug the EC into the XBox's Ethernet port, and it should connect to your Wireless LAN, because IIRC, you don't need any client software.

You could get 100 ft of Ethernet cable and if there doesn't reach, you could be a 1000 ft roll of it and crimp your own stuff. Another solution is to get 100 ft of Ethernet cable connected to a hub then another 100 ft of Ethernet cable going to the Xbox. You catch my drift

But here we don't have any carpet or not attic either. and the walls are plaster and concrete. So that really only leaves 100 feet of cord laying on the floor across the whole house. I wouldn't mind but my wife would kill me!!

any link to the avaya wireless EC??
