some questions about TV's and progressive.

1. TV's that don't have a "p" after the 1080 won't have the ability to play a progressive signal from the PS player right?

2. what does the "i" in 1080i stand for?

3. all HDTV's are "progressive scan ready" right? (meaning if it's HD i wont have to worry about it being able to play a progressive signal from my player). Just a confirmation of my previous assumption.

Thanks.

1) There is no 1080p.. It's 480P (DVD players) and some 720P (some STB HDTV)

2)480i & 1080"i" stands for interlaced

3)Yes all HDTV's support natively support at least 480P

On a side note I noticed that the difference between Progressive and Interlaced is less important then the way the HDTV and DVD Player handle anamorphic (increased lines of resolution) matierial.

Case in point, 2002 Toshiba's all upconvert 480p to 540i and it looks great even though it's coverting Progressive to a higher resolution interlaced mode.

Basically for the most part progressive just reduces flicker becuase it draws the image in one pass and not two but this only becomes more important the larger your screen.

Some people will argue the fine points of progressive but i'll leave that up to them
