Tv Settings help
Hey all. Happy turkey day. I need some help with the settings on my TV. Its a Toshiba TW40H80. I currently have it setup like this
Contrast-46
Bright-37
Tint-0
Color-50
Sharp-0
It looks pretty good but I was just curious as to how other owners of this particular TV have it set up
Thanks
Mike

The numbers are really kind of arbitrary and will vary from set to set, even with the same model. You also have to take into account variances from one cable company to another, or from one satellite receiver to another.
The best way to adjust your set for DVD viewing is by using the test patterns on the "Avia Guide to Home Theater" DVD ot the "Digital Video Essentials" DVD that's coming out in February. These can be a little expensive, but they're worth it.
For cable or satellite, you'll probably need to eyeball it.

I have been trying to use the THX optimizer from Phantom Menace DVD, but its kinda complicated. Just wanted to try and get a comparison from someone who owned the same tv.

THX Optimizer is similar to the test patterns used with Avia and Video Essentials. But to get the color saturation and tint correct, you need to view the test patterns through a blue filter. Avia and VE come with the correct filters. For THX Optimizer, you need to go to www.thx.com and go to the Optimizer section. There will be instructions there on how to get a filter from THX.
