Amazon Stole My GC's !!!

I had a giftcertificate from Giftcertificates.com applied it to an order that still needed about $9 and was left with $15+ yesterday.
Checked that my planet of the apes order was shipping today and checked my gc balance grand total $3.02. WTF!!! (and I don't often swear).
How the hell can that money disappear overnight when I've bought nothing and the gc doesn't expire until 10/29/02?
I written them a nasty letter as phoning is expensive from the U.K., but how can this happen?

I thought amazon had improved, O.K. everyone I admit I was wrong, and amazon better have a darned good explanation for this, (fume) or this is what's gonna happen!

Whatever you do Do NOT return the dvd. I made that mistake and was charged for shipping. Just keep sending them email after email and eventually they'll credit your account. Good luck.

Hi,Kay....

Well, I assume the order wasn't Amazon UK??
Isn't it illegal to play Region 1 films over there?

J/K...

I would try the Amazon UK site and ..well, if you guys have a version of an 800 number, just keep calling until they:
A. Forward yoru complaint
B. Give you some GC's from the UK store...

I can be hot-tempered..and persistant as hell...and I DO swear a lot..but only in private...but I'd CALL them...

Yes, it IS pricey, but this is a point to be made.
Yes, it was most likely a clerical error in cyber-world....but still, e-mails get bounced from one CSR to another..and maybe 3/5 get a response that satisfies both parties.

Be polite, but firm...and tell them you must be brief due to the overseas call.
Or, hey, be creative and download one of those webphone things and just get a mic....isn't that sorta free LD?

I don't know, but you should get a free $5 or something for your troubles.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the support Don Catchpole & Weapon X .
I'll see what this email brings, I phoned amazon.co.uk and they said U.S. are solely to do with the U.S. and not them, although the girl sounded quite young and not really experienced with these sort of problems.

If I have to I will phone, 'cause this just isn't on.

I'm sitting here stunned, I can't believe what they've done. This was my original order:

Subtotal: $ 22.95
Shipping & Handling: $ 5.98
Share the Love: - $ 2.30
Promotional Certificates: - $ 10.00
------
Total Before Tax: $ 16.63
Tax: $ 0.00
------
Total: $ 16.63
Gift Certificate: - $ 16.63
------
Purchase Total: $ 0.00
-------------------------------------------------------------

This is what's on my account now for Planet Of The Apes:
Item(s) Subtotal:
Grand Total: $19.45
Shipping & Handling:$5.98

Total Before Tax:$25.43
Estimated Tax: $0.00
Gift Certificates:-$28.93
-----
-$3.50

How can they do this? They've just taken off my STL discount, my $10 promotional gc and stolen $12 from my new gc.

I'm just shaking with anger, I'm not a rich person and everypenny counts, so for them to just steal my money like this is unbelievable.

I've written to them again sending the original invoice, I have no idea how they're going to explain this.

I used to feel that an amazon gc was almost as good as money, but if you have any on you're account, check the total everyday, bacause amazon feel that they can just dip into them whenever they feel like it.

Hopefully Amazon's customer service will fix your problem.

I am starting to get used to this with every order when I receive the charges on my credit card. My order ships and all the discounts are gone, then I call Amazon customer service for a refund. I have received about 7 credits for overcharges from Amazon the past two months.

At least so far Amazon has given me no problems issuing the credit for the overcharges. But even though this problem has been occurring for several months now most Amazon CSRs and order specialist act clueless they exist.

I am having the same problem with them. I use a GC or coupon on a pre-order and their system takes it.

When I do a status the order shows the discount.

Then magicially, when the order ships, all the discounts are gone and I am charged full price.

This happened on two recent orders. Then I have to e-mail to get my credits back on my credit card.

I sure wish they would fix their damn software! How convenient that they benefit from this error from any poor unsuspecting soul who does not check their shipped order!

Its happened to me as well. On my last two orders. The Woody set and Play It Again Sam were just screwed to hell. I didnt have a STL discount, but received the discount from a fellow STLer who bought the items from my link later. That showed up fine. However the two items shipped separately so they ended up charging me twice for Sam and deleting my $15 coupon. I called and that was fixed. No problem.

Then my Rebecca and HAxan shipped with my STL deleted and the $10 coupon deleted. I called once again. It was fixed. And actually a little too well. I wont go into details but the credit was very much in my favor. The CSR was nice, but obviously a little green. Probably a doubled keystroke or something. And I told them that I was certain I would be calling back for my coupon and STL credit when Notorious and 8 1/2 ship.

It'd happened to me before. I paid for a recent order of a DVD with a promo GC in full. Purchase total was $0.00. Later before the DVD was shipped, the purchase total was like -XX.XX (a negative amount, which I can't remember exactly now). Then I realized amazon emptied my entire GC account balance into this order, effectively overpaying the order by XX.XX. Immediately I called amazon and complained. The CSR didn't have a clue and said it didn't ship because it wasn't fully paid for yet. Trying not to be angry, I explained the situation. The CSR finally understood and fixed it, by zeroing all the sale numbers to zero ($0 DVD, $0 shipping, and $0 GC paid) and the fund went back to my GC account.

Although the problem was finally resolved, the prices and amount paid was all zereod out. It practically read as if I got one of those "Insider" deal with no shipping. The whole thing was not cool.

Thanks very much guys, for your support and sharing your experiences.
I revceived a curt apology from them this morning with a promise to put my money back, but NO offer of any compensation.

I know I shouldn't get stressed over stuff like this, but I've had a couple of days of being very angry and going through the roof at the lies they've told and their methods. You'd think the least they could do is offer me a gc.
I've shopped there quite a bit in the past, but if that's all they think of my custom, then forget it.

My 5$5 off $35 wasn't applied either, I called and the rep. said it showed on my order and she didn't know why it wasn't applied. She issued a credit to my card w/o hassle (other than me having to call them).

Amazon GC the saga continues!!!

Eventually they said they'd give me back the $12 they stole, and I just looked at my balance.
They've returned precisely $3. Their incompetence amazes me, once I get back my money and spend it I'm never setting foot in there again.

My most recent order with a total of zero now has been shipped with charges of 29.97. This is the tenth stinking time and I am sick to death of it. I went on amazon and changed my credit card numbers to a webcertificate. From now on that's the only way I'm buying from them. They can't take what isn't there and I won't preorder any more, it's not worth it. The least they could do is offer up a coupon or something. I just might have to think twice about selling any more gift certificates I earn from them on ebay then take the money elsewhere and shop where I know I won't be ripped off.

Just for reposting..

800-201-7575 is the customer service phone number, which I don't think is even on amazon.com anymore.

I have one last order shipping Jan 15th (lots of good movies coming out that day). When I finished combining a couple orders, the final total was correct, and I made sure to print it out as well. I *also* recorded a phone call between myself and a CSR verifying the Share the Love and promotional GC were applied. I applied a normal GC last week, and now the STL and Promo GC are gone I can't wait to fight this one, that was $20.84 missing from the final total. At least I now have two forms of evidence to back me up when the CSR claims I'm lying or making it up.

I was just going to start a new thread when I noticed this one and boy does it fit my experience to a tee. Its as though, even though you preorder, promo certs and prices at the time of the order don't count and they just charge the current rate at time of shipment. Take this for example

Subtotal: $ 77.70
Shipping & Handling: $ 5.95
Share the Love: - $ 6.07
Promotional Certificates: -$ 10.00
----------
Total before tax: $ 67.58
Tax: $ 0.00
----------
Purchase Total: $ 67.58

that was for

"Under Siege" Steven Seagal; DVD; @ $16.99 each
"Willow" Val Kilmer; DVD; @ $20.23 each
"Shrek" Mike Myers; DVD; @ $20.24 each
"The Terminator (Special Edition)" DVD; @ $20.24 each

then the order just shipped and here's what they had to say

1 Under Siege $16.99 1 $16.99
1 Willow $20.23 1 $20.23
1 Shrek $19.95 1 $19.95
1 The Terminator (Special Editio $20.24 1 $20.24

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Item Subtotal: $77.41
Shipping & Handling: $5.95
Share the Love: -$6.04
Total: $83.36
Paid by Visa: $83.36

The price for Shrek is actually cheaper than what I preordered at, the STL is there but not applied and my Promo Cert is gone. this is the second time I've NOTICED this happened to me, who knows how many other orders I overlooked, I feel like I should go back and review them all. The first time it happened I called and got it resolved, this time I fired off an email, hopefully it will be handled promptly otherwise I'm calling again.

They stole $55.47 in gift certificates from me. Once again, I'll be sending the usual complaints to the BBB about Amazon screwing with order totals etc. I hope others do the same..

I would advise anyone who lost a non promo GC off an order to check their GC account balance at Amazon. I just discovered that I had about $15 in non promo GCs drop off an order that partially shipped but it was available in my account. I was able to reapply the GCs to my remaining order awaiting shipment next week. So your lost GCs could still be in your account.

As of today the credit hasn't shown up on my CC account. Guess I need to remind them.

Over the past 2 weeks, I've had 7 diff orders ship. 7 diff orders with the same problem, same problem as the others here have had.

As soon as I receive an email from them, I've checked the total and guess what....no discount for STL or GC.

Forget emailing Amazon.

I call Amazon right away and get them to admit to the problem. They say a credit will be sent to my CC.

I've then call AMEX to complain about the overcharges and let them know what the charges should be. This way I'll not be charge via AMEX for the overchages(or any charge) until everything is fixed and AMEX will go to Amazon and find out what is wrong.

I called them up, they stated that the credit is in process and that it should take no more than a week. I've had other merchants that complete a credit the next day..

Even though my order summary still has the gift certificates nowhere in sight, and it still reads Grand Total $57.47, Amazon claims that the gift certificates are being applied to the order. We shall see...
