Why are rap stars no talent ass clowns and . . .
. . . . can't come up with their own melodies? Everything the stick out is some rehash of a older song.
And how do they put out more music after someone else kills them? What's up with that?
garbage, I swear!

Turn off MTV and listen to some real hip hop. It might not change your attitude, but you'll soon see that the stuff that is mainstream is hardly the best stuff out there.

Edit: Ok, semi serious answer. Part of the song goes "That's the anthem get yo' damn hands up," I think. It's the anthem of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Since his name is Jay-Z, if you take Jay and add it to HOVA(H to the Izzo, V to the Izza) it gives you Jayhova, or Jehova, as in Jehova's Witness.

If you really want to criticize musicians, why don't you mention bands like the Rolling Stones and AC/DC (both of which I love) and their very repetitive song structures? Can anybody really tell the difference between "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" 's opening and "Razor's Edge"??

It was also quite evident in the LL Cool J's various feuds, and even the Beasties got into the act.

People always seem to knock what they don't understand. Turn off the radio and TV. You won't find real hip hop there. Blissful ignorance never impresses.
Want real hip hop?
Try
Bookie
Vontel
CinQue
Atmosphere
Mr. Iroc
Mos Def
Seanchai
Goodie Mob
Jayo Felony
WC
.....................................and the list goes on....
Hip Hop ain't Will Smith, Puffy, Jay-Z (he fell off 3 albums ago), Ja Rule (at least not the last wimpy album), but don't get me wrong. I still like some of the new ones, and yeah Nate Dogg is the man.

Hip hop 101: Required lisening.
1. A Tribe Called Quest (all five albums)
2. Public Enemy (the first 4 albums)
3. Boogie Down Productions (before KRS1 left the group)
4. De La Soul (every album)
5. Beastie Boys (Pauls Boutique, Check your head)
6. Del The Funkee Homosapien (everything you can find)
7. The Notorious B.I.G. (Juicy)
8. 2-Pac (earlier stuff)
9. The Roots (everything)
That should get you started. Listen to the albums in chronological order as they came out, not by artist. This will give you a basis for understanding the growth of hip hop music. The thing about this genre is, you can't really understand it by just listening to the radio, you have to be introduced to it. You have to see it grow, learn the language, and understand the complexities and subtleties of it and the culture it comes from. It is a very young genre, and unfortunately the stuff you hear on the radio and see on MTV, while perhaps catchy, are not representative of the music as a whole.

De La Soul: Had their first CD
Beastie Boys: Seen them on their first tour here in S.F.
Can't say I know much about the others, but I'm just talking about all these "lets make a new song out of a old hit" fools.
