Why are rap stars no talent ass clowns and . . .

. . . . can't come up with their own melodies? Everything the stick out is some rehash of a older song.

And how do they put out more music after someone else kills them? What's up with that?

garbage, I swear!

Turn off MTV and listen to some real hip hop. It might not change your attitude, but you'll soon see that the stuff that is mainstream is hardly the best stuff out there.

Hey, man, you don't have to try to bring down a whole style of music just because you can't get with it, y'know?

I'm not trying to bring down the whole style.... I'm just talking about all the dead guys who are covering melodies from the 80's and 90's.

Wait a sec... that's all of them.

Please disregard that last comment.

Word, just like about any other genre the stuff on the radio caters to the lowest common denominator. Then again, Keyser only referenced rap "stars".

Who would you consider "good"....

I do have a sqeuwed view of the music... I only hear whatever the girl accross the office has on every now and then.

Oh... and while I got you guys here.... one more question:

What the hell is a "IZZO", and why is "H" going to it????

I just don't get it.

Personally, I am a bit confused why some of the original artists go along with it. i.e. Sting and Jimmy Paige w/ Puff ...whatever his name is

"H to the IZZO, V to the IZZA. I am a shizzley nizzle and that is fo' sho eh."

Edit: Ok, semi serious answer. Part of the song goes "That's the anthem get yo' damn hands up," I think. It's the anthem of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Since his name is Jay-Z, if you take Jay and add it to HOVA(H to the Izzo, V to the Izza) it gives you Jayhova, or Jehova, as in Jehova's Witness.

It's not Ja Rule, it's Jay-Z. So, it would be Jay-hova. It's not the anthem of the Jehovah's Witnesses, it's the ultimate self-aggrandizement that has perpetuated within the rap community since way back in the day -- see Run-DMC's lyric in "King of Rock" -- "I'm the King of Rock / There is none higher / Sucker MCs should call me sire / I won't stop rockin' 'till I retire / To get me out of my kingdom you must use fire". It was also quite evident in the LL Cool J's various feuds, and even the Beasties got into the act.

If you really want to criticize musicians, why don't you mention bands like the Rolling Stones and AC/DC (both of which I love) and their very repetitive song structures? Can anybody really tell the difference between "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" 's opening and "Razor's Edge"??

People always seem to knock what they don't understand. Turn off the radio and TV. You won't find real hip hop there. Blissful ignorance never impresses.

Want real hip hop?

Try
Bookie
Vontel
CinQue
Atmosphere
Mr. Iroc
Mos Def
Seanchai
Goodie Mob
Jayo Felony
WC
.....................................and the list goes on....

Hip Hop ain't Will Smith, Puffy, Jay-Z (he fell off 3 albums ago), Ja Rule (at least not the last wimpy album), but don't get me wrong. I still like some of the new ones, and yeah Nate Dogg is the man.

Hip hop 101: Required lisening.

1. A Tribe Called Quest (all five albums)
2. Public Enemy (the first 4 albums)
3. Boogie Down Productions (before KRS1 left the group)
4. De La Soul (every album)
5. Beastie Boys (Pauls Boutique, Check your head)
6. Del The Funkee Homosapien (everything you can find)
7. The Notorious B.I.G. (Juicy)
8. 2-Pac (earlier stuff)
9. The Roots (everything)

That should get you started. Listen to the albums in chronological order as they came out, not by artist. This will give you a basis for understanding the growth of hip hop music. The thing about this genre is, you can't really understand it by just listening to the radio, you have to be introduced to it. You have to see it grow, learn the language, and understand the complexities and subtleties of it and the culture it comes from. It is a very young genre, and unfortunately the stuff you hear on the radio and see on MTV, while perhaps catchy, are not representative of the music as a whole.

Think of it this way...

Notice how the earth is made up of ROCK and METAL? And not rap, r&b, and hip hop?

That's not a mistake.

Public Enemy: Seen um' open for U2 years ago
De La Soul: Had their first CD
Beastie Boys: Seen them on their first tour here in S.F.

Can't say I know much about the others, but I'm just talking about all these "lets make a new song out of a old hit" fools.
